Will Maddie be able to handle the pressure?

4. Condition

Turning to see my mums shocked yet most likely furious glance, I froze. Oh no.

"Mum this is Niall..." I said slowly, my voice shaking with nerves. Whilst I was shaking though, Niall on the other hand was too focused on the shock of her mother walking in. I guessed it finally dawned on him what it looked like because stepping forward away from my side and closer to her mum he held out his hand,

"Niall Horan. I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier, Lina told me the only way in was through this window so I - unintentionally, I think - just broke in to speak with your daughter" he said. I watched my mothers face whilst battling with my own trying to keep it calm and void of all the crazy emotions that were bubbling up inside me.

"Well, I can't say your timings perfect Niall, usually visitors aren't allowed in past 7pm" my mother said coming inside and straightening her back her tone changing immediately. I knew this tone, it was one I hadn't heard in a while. Her good, old, I-rule-this-house voice. Niall nodded and seemed to hang his head in what probably looked like shame but from my view he still looked undoubtedly cute as ever.

"Yes, ma'am" he said, I tried not to giggle. He sounded so cute and helpless. I looked however then at my mum who gave me a small smile and a wink whilst he wasn't looking before coughing, resulting in him standing up straight. I guessed all those breakfast talks about how cute Niall was (in my opinion) compared to the other One Direction members really hit home, for once. Unlike the breakfast talks we had about my schooling. But that was another matter altogether...

"5 minutes and then you have to leave the way you came" my mum snapped, causing Niall to nod immediately after causing me to choke back a laugh as I lifted a hand to cover my mouth my mum raising her eyebrows accusingly at me knowing all to well Niall was looking before leaving the room and shutting the door behind her.

"Your mums so hot" Niall said as soon as she left. I turned to him shock and disgust showing all over my face. He did not just say that... The sly smile that spread across his lips and then the chuckle that escaped them sent me into a furious frenzy.

"Oh my gosh Niall. Don't joke like that" I exclaimed as he came back towards me, I playfully punched his arm.

"Do you seriously think I would say that, right after I just kissed you?" he asked still calming down from laughing. I blushed,

"Exactly. Anyway, your mums heaps scary. But then again she's probably just protecting you. You've got a good mum. My mums good like that too, especially when it comes to food..." he said, dragging on the word food so long I almost thought I spotted a line of drool escaping the sides of his mouth. I laughed,

"Well anyway so we're still on for the day after tomorrow?" he asked,

"Thursday" I clarified he nodded,

"Yeah, that's it. Thursday, how about I pick you up after school or whatever. Where do you go?" he asked, I made a face.

"I just transferred to a public school. Redmonds" I said, he nodded quickly picking up a pen from my desk filled with photos scribbling it down on the palm of his hand.

"Okay, awesome so around 3:15pm?" he asked, I nodded the same nervousness that came over me before sprung back up but with anticipation also.

"Awesome, see you then" he said, beginning to climb out of the window. I held back the curtains my anticipation dropping before he spun around,

"Oh I forgot something..." he said before quickly pecking my cheek and then running off to climb down the side of the house. My hand instantly flew to my check a small tingling sensation going through the skin on my cheek where his lips had been for the butterfly touch of a fleeting moment. He was adorable. Closing the window dazed in happiness I then went over and fell carelessly onto the bed closing my eyes as a content smile spread upon my lips. Niall Horan, had kissed me. Twice.

Waking up the next morning I'd been on cloud nine. Even when I got dressed for school, ate my breakfast with my dad who'd I'd been continuing to ignore but didn't snap back anything to that morning, and getting a lift from mum to school I'd been sure nobody was going to take this great feeling away from me. That's what made me foolish. Seeing the barred up windows of Redmonds and the dozens of students stationed outside the school grounds puffing away on cigarettes like they were part of some kind of chain-smoking gang, even they didn't get my good mood diminished entirely. That was until I went into my first class for the morning. English.

"...And they said I was a definite shoe-in to be the main singer for Infinity Girls...!" a way to flamboyant voice came squealing from the other side of the class room, glancing over my heart sank. It was that girl from my first day. What had been her name... Mary. Mary Dow. That sucked.

"I tried asking for Niall's number after but he didn't give it but then the manager gave me a pamphlet on all their public appearances, so I can just try again! Nothing like a back-stage pass or anything - those are near impossible to get your hands on - but don't you just agree? Niall and I are a match made in heaven!" Mary continued, shamelessly flipping her hair and animating her facial expression to match each part of her 'thrilling' experience with One Direction whilst surrounded my over half the class. Mainly? Girls. The guys however huddled in the opposite corner seething and what-not over how stupid the whole thing was and even as the teacher came in nobody was in their proper seat. Except for me that is.

"Alright everyone sit down" he instructed, everyone quickly finishing off any pointless details of their conversations before milling slowly back into their seats. I guess the fact the desk I sat on hadn't been assigned was right since it was the only desk without a name plate on the front of it and the only glances I was getting were ones of recognition and then distaste from Mary. Luckily, she had her own seat.

"So we have a new student today all the way from Meredith's Private College on the other side of Kingsley Hill! Let's all give her a small clap as she comes up and introduces herself!" he said cheerfully, I got up slowly as a few hands clapped and after about 2 seconds I was oddly enough, walking up between the isles of student desks in complete and utter silence. Standing at the front of the class I turned around to look at them the nerves hitting me all in one go.

"Okay so name, age and hobbies please!" the teacher who's name I'd learned off the board as I walked up was Mr Nicklebottom. I gave a small nervous smile as I fidgeted with my thumbs,

"Okay... So my name is Maddie Groves..." I said, quickly glancing at the teacher for some direction though his only response was to give me an 'encouraging' nod only furthering my nervousness.

"I'm 16. I like to read, sing and hang out with my friends on the weekends" I said hurriedly before quickly starting to go back to my seat, the clamp of a hand on my shoulder, however, held me back.

"Question time!" Mr Nicklebottom, exclaimed gleefully his hand holding my back. Nobody put their hand up. Great!

"So you hang out with your friends on the weekends, what do you do? Read the bible and pray over a luncheon?" Mary piped up, earning herself a few smirks around the class. I seethed inside, but outwardly gave her a shining smile,

"No we don't do that. Usually we just go shopping and have coffee at a little french cafe in town called: 'La Petite'" I said, earning a few rolls of the eyes and earning a glare of a few other girls. I fidgeted with my thumbs a bit more. What could I had said wrong? "And you sing right? So, did you enter the auditions for Infinity Girls? I heard through the grape vine One Direction was judging did you get to meet any of them...? Oh, let me guess you were too chicken" Mary taunted smiling from her seat like the devious Cheshire cat earning a few more laughs this time barely held back mainly from the girls.

"I did audition..." I said slowly,

"And did you make it?" she pushed further raising a curious eyebrow the rest of her face however showing her disbelief if I did. What was the point in lying anyway? Well completely anyway, telling the truth with a little one on the end didn't matter much did it?

"Yeah I did. Though I kind of heard it through the 'grape vine' I'm a shoe-in for the lead singer of Infinity Girls, not that I want to brag or anything - It was defiantly one of my easier auditions" I lied, her face turned read earning not only a glare from her but a few other girls.

"Okay, okay you can go back to your seat now Maddie. Now everyone today was start on page..." Mr Nicklebottom interrupted and rushed into the lesson most likely feeling the tension in the classroom.

After class I headed to the library the only place I guessed would be quiet enough for a nice and peaceful lunch without any over zealous people too interested in bothering me any further. A bump against the back of my shoulder, however, sent me stumbling forward a few steps before numerous giggles and laughs erupted beside me and went past. I looked up to see Mary laughing as she looked at me over her shoulder along with her other friends who turned around, when she was sure she was the only one still looking she threw my a dirty glare before turning her face back to her front as the squabble of girls turned the corner. A build up of fury ran through my veins before I shut my eyes for a second and taking a deep breath allowed for it all to settle. Maybe that was just what I got for lying. I probably deserved that... A little. Continuing to the library I thought back to the early morning, how my mood had dropped from high on cloud nine to below the underground. I never thought I'd ever once think it but that day I did for the first time. School, really did, suck.
