1. Love Story- Taylor Swift

I look around at the ballroom, at all of the different people dressed in ridiculous costumes. I hadn’t wanted to come, but my friend Nan forced me to. She said that I was a good opportunity for me to meet single men, and she kept reminding me how much I was in need of a boyfriend. So here I was, sitting alone, dressed as Aphrodite.

The party was to celebrate a new hit album my dad produced at his record company, one that made us plenty richer than we already were. I was impressed with the outcome of my mother’s planning, but not surprised; she spent all day and night perfecting this party.

There were round tables around the edges of the wall, all covered in silk cloth and a vase of purple orchids in the middle. The large walls were white, with lot of gold trimming, and there was a large, golden staircase at the end of the rectangular room. And to top it off, there was a giant chandelier hanging in the middle, lit with dozens of twinkling lights.

I sighed and looked around, completely bored out of my mind. Then, my eye caught on someone coming towards me, and repulsion filled me. It was Patrick, who has been trying to get with me all night. Nan fully supported us together, and I was pretty sure that she was the one who invited him here. I, on the other hand, did not like him one bit. He was self-centered, greedy, vain, and fake.

I quickly get up from the table and stealthily walk into the crowd of dancers, hiding myself behind random people. Heck, while I was here, I might as well dance. I let the rhythm of the loud music fill me and I dance along with the people next to me. My heart rate picks up as I jump around, and I tilt my head back in laughter.

The song ends and the crowd calms down a bit, waiting for what comes on next. The next song is slower, but is definitely still a party song.

“Now and then I think of when we were together, Like when you said you felt so happy you could die.”

I smiled to myself as I listened to the electronic beat, but decide to take a break. Moving out of the crowd, but away from where I last saw Patrick, I made my way to get a drink of water. With a smile still plastered on my face, I grabbed a cool bottle of water and untwist the cap. I gaze outside at the dark sky, and realize how late it was.

Absentmindedly, I take a sip of the cold liquid and sit down at the nearest table. I leaned back and took a deep breath to calm down. I took a quick glance to make sure that Nan nor Patrick were near, and I turned back to the window.

I was planning to look at the stars, but what I saw instead was five boys hiding in the bushes. Who were they? I stood up to tell my father, but I stopped when I saw him.

The whole world stops.

My heartbeat dulls in my chest as I looked into his grey eyes. This chestnut hair was swiped to the side, and I was sure that I had never seen anyone more beautiful.

Time passed, and I had no idea if it was seconds, minutes, hours or days. I yearned to be near him, to feel his skin next to mine, to feel his lips on mine. I could no longer hear the loud music in the background. The ache in my feet was gone, and butterflies flitted around in my stomach. It felt like we were the only ones left on the earth, only separated by a wall. I wanted run towards him, but I could hardly move.

I knew he saw me; we were both frozen staring at each other. I could see his eyes filled with shock, surprise and intrigue. His lips were curled up in a small smirk, and his tan skin glowed, even at nighttime.

I wanted to stare at him forever, but the outside world has other plans.

Someone bumps into me, drawing away my attention for a second. It was only for a split second, but when I looked back, he was gone.

My heart has never hurt so much as when I saw that he had disappeared. I quickly turned around, searching for those grey eyes in the crowd. I shoved my way past people, hurriedly scanning over the many faces. I walked up and down the room, my heart now beating against my rib cage. A lump in my throat formed when I realized that he was gone, and I would probably never see him again.

My eyes stinging, I sink back to the edge of the room, hiding behind a pillar. I let a single tear escape, running down my cheek until it gets caught on my lip.

“I’m so glad I found you.” A chill breaks out all over me as someone whispers into my ear, and my heart lifts. There was only one person that could have such a beautiful voice.

He places a hand on my shoulder and I turn to face him, shocked with how close we are. His sweet breath washes over me, and I couldn’t help but smile.

This beautiful stranger reaches up to wipe away the trail the tear left on my cheek, his thumb lingering on my lip.

Slowly but surely, he leans forward, and I close my eyes. The space between us is about to close when my name is shrieked across the room.

“Meredith! Meredith!” We jump apart, blushes slowly creeping up our faces. I step around the pillar and see Nan spot me. There was no use hiding now, so I leave the shadow. I was about to take a step away, when I feel him grab my hand, pulling me closer to him.

“Just one kiss.” He whispers, and I nod slightly. I close my eyes and, before I can prepare myself, I feel his soft lips crashing down on mine. The sweet kiss was over in a second, and when I opened my eyes, he was gone once again.

My skins heats up as I think about him, and in the behind me I hear Nan advancing.

“Meredith, why have you been avoiding me?!” I feel my arm being grasped by her dainty hand and I let myself be pulled from the shadows. I smile to myself, ignoring Nan’s yells.

“Did you see who was just with me?” I interrupt her.

“Yes, I saw him.” She says, slightly taken aback that I had spoken in the middle of her rant. “Why?”

“Do you know who he was? Do you know his name?” I was desperate to know him, and I would search everywhere to find him. I knew that I loved him, even though we had only shared a few moments together.

“I recognize him,” she finally says after seconds of thinking. “But I can’t remember his name or how I know him.”

My heart drops suddenly, and the smile is wiped off of my face. Hope was lost. Why hadn’t I asked for his name when I had the chance?

Nan notices my distress and brushes a strand of hair out of my face. “I’ll go ask around. Don’t worry, Meredith.”

I grin at my friend, and she walks off into the crowd. I watch from a distance as she talks to people, gathering information.

I go back to the table I was sitting at when I first saw him, and secretly hopped that I would spot him out in the bushes again.

After another hour, the party began to end, and Nan still had yet to come back to me. I was slowly losing faith that I would ever see the grey-eyes stranger.

Staring at the flower arrangement, I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard the soft tapping of Nan’s shoes coming near me. I swivel around in the chair, eager to learn his name.

“So? Who is he?” I pester happily at her, ignoring the sad look on her face.

“Louis Tomlinson.” Nan states grimly.

Please, God. Anyone but him. Why did it have to be him?

I wanted to run, to scream at the world for its cruelty.

Why couldn’t his name be something else?

Our love was destined to end.

Because Louis Tomlinson, the boy I fell in love with as soon as I saw him, was working with SyCo, the leading competitor of my dad’s record company.

Oh, how my father loathed them. He spat on the ground they walked on, he hated every single person that was associated with them. It had been driven into me since birth 18 years ago that I was never to speak to anyone that had to do with SyCo. They were the enemy, never to be trusted with anything.

I had fallen in love with the enemy.

Tears streaming down my face, I ran up the staircase to my room. I ignored the worried comments from my parents, slamming the door shut and locking it behind me.

“WHY?!” I screamed. “Why did it have to be HIM?! Of all people!”

There was no way I could ever be with him. My parents would never allow it.

Angrily, I shove open my balcony doors. I take deep, slow breathes to calm myself. The cool, night air filled my lungs and I tried to block out the loud music from downstairs. I wipe the tears away with the back of my hand and lean against the railing. Looking up at the stars through the tear line, I imagine having him right next to me. I can almost hear his voice.

Then, my ears pick up a voice singing below me. I look down into the forest that filled my backyard, and I can hardly believe my eyes.

Louis was standing there, watching me with those grey eyes. My smile returned when I heard him singing.

“Meredith, I’ll take you, Somewhere we can be alone. I’ll be waiting, All that’s left to do is run. I’ll be the prince, And you’ll be the princess. It’s a love story, Baby just say yes.”

He was here, obviously in love with me as much as I was with him, despite all of the rules my parents had laid down.

“I love you.” He calls up to me, and I knew that everything was going to be okay, because love can endure through anything.
