What Makes You Beautiful (One Direction)

Dani has been supporting her best friend's obsession with the latest guy trends since they were 7. From the Jonas Brothers to Justin Bieber, Dani had heard it all. Dani had never been much to follow the crowd, and never really paid much attention to the latest boy bands. All she knew were the names.
Well, Grace's newest obsession is a little band called One Direction. Dani is constantly hearing about tour dates, concerts, and interviews, but had never heard their music or seen their pictures. Just another boy band, right?
But when Dani unknowingly meets one of the famous band members, her life is changed forever. Especially when she finds out that her summer will also be effected. Will her lack of interest in the band continue, or will she open up to the new atmosphere?

8. Surprise

Dani's POV

My phone was ringing non stop after the interview. I didn't answer any of them, mostly because they were people who I never talked to. Actually, mostly because they were people who hate me.

I eventually just turned my phone off, which I should have thought about before I left it on the entire ride home.

The second I got through the door, I ran to my bedroom and locked the door behind me. What did I just do? The whole world now knows that I'm dating Niall Horan. What did I just get myself into?!

I heard a knock at my door, followed by Grace's voice, "Dani? Are you all right?"

"No! I'm seriously not all right, Grace!" I said, sounding a bit harsher than I had meant to.

I heard her footsteps disappear down the hall and felt bad. I hadn't meant to take this out on her, but my emotions were messed up right now. I really like Niall, but I really don't like attention. The only problem was; which feeling was more dominant?

I think I sulked in my room for about an hour before I heard a knock at the door. I was curious to know who it was, but not enough to get out of bed. Man, this must have been what Niall did after I slammed the door in his face. Now I feel extra guilty about doing it!

I heard muffled voices at the doorway, only making out a few sentences like, "Did you know?" and "Where is she?"

I sighed as footsteps approached my door. Someone tried to unlock the door, but it was still locked. I smiled to myself. Ha ha. Sorry, Grace.

Then, I heard a clicking noise, and the door swung open. Damn it!

Before I could react, I felt 4 bodies sitting on top of me. This was bad enough when it was just Grace, but now there are 4 of them. It's like, 350 pounds on top of me!

"GIRLS NIGHT!!!!" Four voices cried. I grabbed my pillow and squeezed it over my ears. Make it stop!

"Get. Off." I said slowly. Whenever I spoke like that, the girls knew not to cross me. that was my 'seriously pissed' voice.

They hesitantly got off me and sat along the edges of my bed. I flipped over and opened my eyes, facing my 4 true friends. Ya, alright, they were my only friends. Hey, I wasn't a joy to be around. These girls are the only ones that put up with me.

Emma is another Grace, with long blonde hair and big blue eyes. She has Olive skin and always dresses like she's going to a party.

Sam is the quietest girl in our group. She's small and thin, and her family is from the Philippines. She has dark hair and eyes, and is very shy to strangers, but when she's with us, she's like a totally different person.

Macy is the last one, and most likely the one who picked the lock on my door. She's incredibly smart, and just moved to California about 5 years ago from Canada. She has shoulder length, curly hair that is the same colour as rust, and emerald eyes that seem to sparkle when she laughs.

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked.

"Grace invited us. She says you're upset, so we're going to slumber it." Macy said with a smile.

"She also promised that you would explain absolutely everything to us, because apparently we're not cool enough to know in advance." Emma stated.

I shook my head, "Guys, I-"

I was so rudely interrupted by Sam smacking me in the face with a pillow, "NO, DANI!!! YOU ARE GOING TO EXPLAIN ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING TO US OR SO HELP ME I WILL SMACK YOU AGAIN!!!"

So what I mean by totally different person?

"Okay, okay, fine. If I tell you guys everything, do you swear that there will be no fangirl screams?" I said, finally giving up.

The four girls looked at each other for doubt, before they all looked to me and nodded.

"Alright. I'll tell you whatever you want to know. But first, what's girls night without pizza?"

"AW!" my friends cried at the same time.

I rolled my eyes. This evening has been a long string of 'aw's and fan girl shrieks. Macy and Sam were both fans of the band, but obviously not as desperate as Grace and Emma.

"And then after the interview, he said he was busy tomorrow, but would pick me up after school on Monday." I finished.

"And?!" Emma cried expectantly.

"And nothing! That's the end of the story!" I said, raising my hands up in innocence.

"You guys are so cute!" Sam cried.

"I know. I really like him, but I'm not sure if I can take the entire world knowing about our relationship, you know?"

Grace smiled, "Well, I know how to fix your phone problem. Tomorrow I will go out and get you another one, and we will only put your real friends numbers on it. Plus my dad of course."

"Really? Thanks, Grace." I said, feeling a bit relieved inside. A new phone would be a really good idea.

We were silent for a little bit, when suddenly something hit me, "Niall!"

I scrambled off my comfy chair and ran to my room, grabbing my phone off my end table and turning it on. Eight missed calls and 12 text messages from Niall.

I put my phone on silent and quickly dialled his number as I walked back into the living room. God, he was probably freaking out right now.

I sat down on my white bean bag chair just as Niall's face popped up on the screen. His face looked relieved and I laughed, "Been worried?"

"Of course I have! I just announced on live television that you're my girlfriend. Why haven't you answered my calls?" Niall asked.

At the sound of his voice, the girls darted to the phone and gawked at the screen from behind me. Niall laughed, so I guess they had very shocked expressions.

"I turned my phone off. People I haven't spoken to in years wanted me to be their best friend, so I eventually just gave up. Sorry 'bout that."

Emma was the first to let out a scream, and I groaned. She just couldn't help herself.

"You're Emma, right? I recognize you from the signing." Niall said. I'm pretty sure his words made her week.

"What was that?" I heard a familiar voice say off screen.

"Hey Louis!" I called.

Niall turned his head towards Louis, who's voice was louder, "Oooh! I wanna see!"

The camera shook and I heard a few complaints from Niall as Louis took ahold of the phone. His big smile appeared on the screen and I laughed.

"Look! It's Dani! And her hot friends!" Louis cried, obviously so that the rest of the band could hear.

"OH MY GOD!! LOUIS TOMLINSON!!!" Emma shrieked. She and Grace started jumping up and down, while Sam and Macy kept their eyes glued to the screen, wide eyed.

"Sorry. Another fan girl." I said. Louis grinned, just as the other 3 boys appeared behind him.

They all waved and I finally lost it. I burst out laughing and tossed the phone to Macy, who caught it and continued to stare with Sam on her shoulder.

"And who might you two lovely ladies be?" Harry asked.

"Macy and Sam!" I cried through my laughter. I calmed myself down and grabbed the phone out of Macy's hands before connecting it to a cord coming from our TV. The four boys appeared on the huge screen, and I sat back down. Grace, Macy, and Emma sat down on the couch, and Sam sat down in the chair.

"Nice PJ's, Dani." Harry said, wiggling his eyebrows. I looked down at what I was wearing, and noticed my pair of blue and black plaid shorts and grey t shirt.

I glared at Harry, "Pervert."

"OMG! I can't believe it's actually you!" Emma cried. Louis smiled at this comment, before the phone was taken back by Niall.

"Woah. I can see everyone." He said in surprise.

"Ya, I have my phone hooked up to the TV. Anyway, I'm getting a new one tomorrow, so don't call my old one unless you don't mind being ignored." I said.

"Good to know." he said with a nod.

"Oh, by the way, this is Macy and Sam. They are my other besties." I said, pointing to each girl as I said their name. Niall gave them a smile and a wave, and they mechanically waved back. I could tell they were both still in shock from what they were seeing.

I grinned. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad after all.

As he promised, Niall picked me up after school all week. He had to continue the American tour, and was leaving on Friday morning to go to their final stop, which was in New Mexico.

I stood with him outside the plane, my arms locked around his neck. I didn't want him to go. Not now. It hasn't been long enough!

"Don't worry, love. I'll call you every day. And we'll visit soon." he said over my shoulder.

I felt a tear drip down my face, but I nodded. A phone call was the best I could hope for.

I pulled away and gave him a forced smile, "Don't go waiting for girls to fall into your lap while you're away. I may not be there, but I'll know if you cheat."

Niall smiled, "Don't worry. I won't."

I watched as One Direction boarded the plane, and suddenly felt the urge to cry.

No. I had to be strong.

I made my way to my car and drove away before I DID start bawling. Chill, Dani. You're going to see him again soon. It's not goodbye.

I pulled into my space and headed up to my apartment. Thankfully, the obsessive Dani Cross fans haven't found out where I live yet, so things were quiet.

I was greeted with an empty loft and sighed. This day just keeps getting better and better.

The next two weeks went by slowly. They were the last two weeks before graduation, and Prom had been a couple days before. Man did prom ever suck for me. I had to wear a hoodie and sunglasses
so that nobody noticed me, and was the DJ for the entire thing. I would MUCH rather dance with Niall or something, but no. He was in Albuquerque.

Graduation was even worse. Do you know how hard it is to not have your parents at your grad ceremony? Instead, a few freaking paparazzi guys took my picture. Well, Mr. and Mrs Flemming did too, since they were my legal guardians and cared about me like I was their own daughter. But it's just not the same, you know?

Finally, the first day of summer arrived. What am I doing? Lying in bed. What is Grace doing? Apparently packing my suitcase.

"What the hell are you doing?!" I cried.

"We're going away for the summer. You, me, Emma, Macy, and Sam."

"What? When are we leaving?" I asked groggily.

"In about 2 hours. So I think you had better get your lazy as out of bed and get ready. I've got your suitcase." Grace said, not even looking up from what she was doing.

"Where are we going?"

"To one of my family's vacation houses."

"Which one? You have like, 12."

"It's a surprise. Now get ready! I laid your clothes out for you, so your morning grumpiness doesn't rub off on me."

I growled at her and got out of bed, slipping on the pair of skinny jeans and the loose grey t shirt that was lying on my desk. I then put my hair up into a pony tail and slipped on my new Ray Ban sunglasses before heading out to where Grace was patiently waiting for me.

"About time." she said. Okay, maybe not patiently...

"Will you tell me where I'm going now?" I asked her.

"No. Here's your suitcase."

I sighed and grabbed the handle, dragging it behind me as I stumbled into the elevator.

Grace lead me outside, after we said goodbye to Jerry, and shoved me into a limo. Macy, Emma, and Sam were already inside, and they were all looking at me excitedly.

"Let me guess. You guys all know exactly where we're going, don't you?"

They all nodded and I rolled my eyes. Grace got in and the limo started moving.

"Can I have a hint?" I asked.

"No." Grace replied.

"Pretty please?"

After that, I just remained silent. I was obviously the odd girl out here, so it apparently didn't matter what I had to say.

We got out of the limo and I realized we were at the airport. OH GOD.

"Grace...?" I called in barely a whisper.

"I'm sorry, Dani. It's the only way we can get there. It's only 14 hours, though." she said.

I hesitantly got on the private jet and sat down in the nearest chair, which happened to be white leather. My friends got in after me and the plane took off a few minutes later. My knuckles were white from the pressure I was using to hold onto the sides of my chair. My jaw was clenched, but I was still shaking.

"Are you okay, Dani?" Sam asked.

"No! I am most certainly NOT OKAY!!" I screamed. The seat belt light dinged off, but I kept it securely around my waist. No way was I taking a safety precaution off.

Sam came over and sat down next to me, but it didn't make me any less tense. I was petrified of flying.

The flight attendant asked me about a dozen times if I needed anything, but I kept shaking my head. What I needed was to get off this floating death trap!

I'm pretty sure the second the plane landed and the door opened, I hopped out of my seat so fast I was a blur. I honestly didn't care where we were, as long as we were on land.

I looked around and immediately knew exactly where I was.

I was back in Italy.
