Rise Of The Phoenix

The legend says that when the Phoenix rises from the ashes of a fallen wizard, six young heroes are ready to take on the honorable task of restoring the country's long lost greatness, but before that can happen, they must be taught the ways of their ancient heroes.

17 year old Beatrice leaves her home in the early morning, to fulfill her duty as one of the chosen ones, knowing she might not return.
For more than thirty years, the country has been ruled by an evil wizard, whose power lies solely in his ability to raise the dead. Now, his reign has come to a turning point, that will either mark the end of his terror, or grant him even bigger powers. Only six chosen youngsters have the ability to change the future.

Chapter Twelve:

Bea stood among the other two girls in the entrance, all groggy from sleep after having been woken by a loud bell that had echoed through the entire dungeon less than an hour after Bea finally got to sleep. Now they were seemingly waiting for the boys to wake up and join them.

After what seemed like ages, the boys finally came shrugging apologetically at Bea, before he join the group of girls. After him came a big burly guy, without a doubt a warrior, but Bea's attention flew from him when the last boy appeared. He was a magnificent creature. A faun. Part man, part dear and possibly the most stunning thing Bea had ever seen. He was just a boy, but the elegance that carried him towards the others made her hold her breath, just for a second.

"I apologize for the rude awakening.” The elder wizard said, appearing in front of them. “I installed the bell, it's surprisingly effective.” A small chuckle escaped his lips before he straightened his back.

"Right apprentices, this way.” He said, leading them out of the front door. “We will each be in charge of our own breakfast this morning, using whichever set of skills we have. It is vital that you are all capable of holding your own against nature as well as the enemy.”

They all started to walk towards the woods, except Analiese, who remained in the door, standing with her arms crossed she raised her voice.

"Excuse me. I fish. That's sort of what nymphs do, but there's no lake here.” She said. Her lips were pursed in a slight pout as she looked at the elder wizard. Bea had to bite her tongue not to laugh, how could she have been one of the chosen ones? Even Bea knew better.

"You can not depend on a single skill.” Was all the Elder wizard had to say, before he walked on into the woods. “I will see you all in an hour.”

Everybody split up and went into the woods, but Bea was for a second spellbound as she watched Julia transform into a hawk and set off into the air. She had never seen a shapeshifter in real life before, but her father had told her about them. Humans with an ability that had led to them being banned from society, because the majority of shapeshifters were treacherous, and not to be trusted.

Bea refused to believe that was the case with all of them, but her sudden new knowledge about Julia still made her cautious. She couldn't trust any of them, not yet, but she would have to learn to trust them.

She quickly gathered her thoughts and started looking around for firewood. It was past curfew and bright, so there was no risk in making a fire. If she was lucky, she would find something edible in the woods, but at least the fire would make it look like she knew what she was doing.
