Chapter Nineteen:

Bea ran as fast as her legs could carry her through the masses of trees that seemed to be closing around her. She didn't know where she was going, she barely even knew where she came from. Devin and Percy were somewhere far behind her, held by the few undead that hadn't joined the horde that followed her.

She rushed ahead but she knew they were closing in on her. It wouldn't be long before she too was caught in their grasp.

She knew she couldn't give up without a fight so when one of them threw himself at her and grabbed her ankle she only just hit the ground before she fought her way back onto her feet.

Trying to fight her way out of the zombie's grasp, she focused all her energy in creating a wave if power that would send the pursuers flying but something drained her powers. She couldn't summon any strength. Instead it blackened before her eyes and reality faded fast.

By the time the world came back around her, she was in an entirely different place. A small room that seemed most of all like a jail cell. She looked around, trying to adjust to the lack of light. Percy and Devin were sitting in each their corner. Both of them seemed to have been conscious for a while, but none of them noticed that she was back.

"What's going on?" She asked. Devin  snapped his head towards her and for a couple of seconds just stared at her before he regained his voice.

"They caught us." He said. A mixture of fear and determination in his voice. "We've been traveling all day. We're in the capital."

"What happens now?" Bea asked. She knew the others' probably didn't know, but she couldn't just sit in silence, without knowing anything.

"Something happens at sunrise." Percy piped up. "I heard one of the emperor's generals order a recruit to pick us up before then."

"So now we just wait?” Devin asked. “Hell no. We have to do something.”

"We'll be ready when they come for us.” Bea said. Still not sure how. She felt weak and useless. Something had drained her powers, without them she was useless, but Devin and Percy both got up, ready to come up with a plan.
