4. Talking With Danté

It was about 3 in the morning, Helen was asleep on the blow up bed, and Danté had climbed from the sofa bed on to mine to talk to me. Or whisper, rather. He was lying next to me. We were talking about Helen's weird antics today.

"Clover, I think she's jealous of you." Danté whispered.

"She can't be, Danté! That's crazy! Just because of movellas?!"

Danté sighed. "Clo, there's something I need to tell you."

My stomach flipped. This was something bad, really bad. I could just tell.

"Go ahead," I squeaked nervously.

"The other day, Helen took me to the park. Beside the river. And told me she fancied me. But I told her I didn't fancy her. That I liked someone else." He sighed again. "I didn't tell her who, but she figured it out. Hell, it's pretty obvious."

I could feel his gaze intensify in the dark.

"Who is it?" I squeaked.

"You," He said intensely.

I couldn't believe it.

"What?!" I almost shouted.

"Shhhh! You'll wake Helen!"

"Really?" I asked.

"Yep. Look Clover, I think you're amazing. Beautiful, fun, the nicest personality, smart, amazing writer. So what do you think?"

"I don't believe you."

"Well you should. Anyway, I'm really tired, so I'm going to sleep."

He made his way to his sofa bed and said goodnight. Meanwhile my mind was whirring. I absolutely refused to believe it.

But as I tried to get to sleep, my mind couldn't stop having doubts...... and my stomach wouldn't stop with the butterflys.
