14. BBQ Night

It was the evening after arrival. We had all settled in well and dropped off to sleep with the travel-tiredness. Agnetta had had the idea to have a BBQ because it was to be a sunny evening. So all evening, on the patio, we danced, talked, laughed, ate and had just loads of fun.

It was now half past ten, and it was growing dark. It was still warm, but. The humidity made it warm. So we were all in one of the fields, around a camp fire Agnetta's husband Gareth had built. Charlie's boyfriend Tony had his guitar out, and was playing for us. His blue-green eyes looked sincere as he played, and once or twice, he ran a hand through his black gelled hair.

Agnetta was looking thoroughly pleased with herself, to have suggested such fun. Her rainbow-coloured spiked hair looked fitting with her smug look. Her moss-green eyes looked self-satisfied. Her daughters, the identical twins, were sitting with a group of their friends (neighbours, far out, they had been friends for ages, me too), and I think they were playing truth or dare. It was funny looking at their caramel-hair and moss-green eyes, and all features, and seeing they matched.

Charlie was sitting day-dreaming next to Tony. Her hair was chocolate brown and eyes blue-green. I was sitting next to Danté, both lost in our own thoughts. I stood up and pulled Danté with me. His hand found mine and we made our way over to Charlie and Tony.

"Where's Mum, Dad and Gareth?" I asked Charlie.

"I think they went for more food and drink." She smiled up at me. "Sit down here, you two. Talk to me."

We plopped down.

"Nice playing, Tony." I complemented.

He strummed a few chords and nodded his thanks.

I might play the flute as accompaniment." Said Charlie, her eyes lighting up at the thought.

"Charl!" I squealed. "You didn't tell me you played the flute! You have to teach me a bit!"

"Yeah." She laughed. "And I'll make you a deal. I'll teach you a bit, if you sing with Tony for  a while while he plays guitar."

"No!" I squeaked.

"Yeah Clover, C'mon you have to!" Nearly yelled Danté.

Suddenly, Mum, Dad and Gareth popped up, back with food and drink.

"Yeah Clover!" Agreed Charlie. "Sing for us!"

Then everyone started chanting "C'mon, Clover! Sing!"

I had no choice in the matter.

"Alright, alright!" I yelled.

Tony grinned. "What do you want to sing?" He asked.

I didn't hesitate. "Do you know The Mouldy Peaches- Anyone Else But You? You know, that class song from Juno?"

"Sure." He said. "The chords are easy. Interesting choice though. Any reason?"

"It's relevent," I muttered.

And with that, he started to strum the entrance chords. Then I started to sing.

"You're a part time lover and a full time friend

The monkey on you're back is the latest trendI don't see what anyone can see

In anyone else but you"

My eyes found Danté's.

"I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of the train

I kiss you all starry eyed, my body's swinging from side to sideI don't see what anyone can see

In anyone else but you"

I smiled at the hush of the camp. All listening to me.

"Here is the church and here is the steeple

We sure are cute for two ugly peopleI don't see what anyone can see

In anyone else but you"

I giggled, my eyes on Danté.

"The pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive me

So why can't you forgive me?

I don't see what anyone can see

In anyone else but you"

Everyone was watching me, watching Danté. They knew what this was about.

"I will find my nitch in your car

With my MP3, DVD, rumple-packed guitar

I don't see what anyone can see

In anyone else but you"

I sighed.

"Du, du, du

Du, du, du

Du, du, du"

Danté smiled at me.

"Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B A start

Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart

I don't see what anyone can see

In anyone else but you"

Charlie was grinning from ear to ear.

"You are always trying to keep it real

I'm in love with how you feel

I don't see what anyone can see

In anyone else but you"

My stomach flipped. I finished the rest of the song in a happy daze.

After the song I thanked them for listening, then Danté leaded me to the trees, and wasting no time, kissed me like I was dying. Like he'd never see me again. So much passion.

"I love you." He whispered.

"I love you too." I whispered back.

And I did.
