I'm Sorry, Do I Know You?

I'm back! Did you miss me? Basically, this isn't fan fiction (shocker!) this time but it's more of just something I wrote. I hope you like it. (:

4. Chapter 4

It was three days before Jake was allowed to return home. They kept him under surveillance the whole time, and he asked if I could stay with him as long as I could.

“You’re my only chance of remembering things, Rachel. Please stay. You’ve gotta help me.” I’d nodded, and then I hadn’t left the hospital for three days. I wasn’t letting him on his own. He said he couldn’t remember where he lived. Certain things he did remember, sure, but the memory was a lot worse than the doctors had predicted. He could remember his family but not his address, etc.

“Rachel?” I awoke and sat up in the chair that I’d fallen asleep in. I checked the clock on the wall, it was five in the morning. Jake was calling my name. He didn’t call me Rach anymore.

“Yeah?” I replied groggily, stretching my arms out in front of me.

“How old am I?” He asked. I chuckled slightly.

“You’re twenty three, Jake. A year older than me.”

“Oh.” He smiled, happy with the response, and went to go back to sleep. I sighed, guessing that I wouldn’t get back to sleep. I got up and headed off in pursuit of a bathroom. My sister had visited and brought me clean clothes (along with some for Jake) and toiletries, so I was okay. There was a guest shower in this ward and I used it to my advantage; letting the warm water flood over me, trying to melt away some of the stress. It wasn’t working. I sighed, washed my hair and body, and stepped out. I got dressed quickly, groaning at the fashion choices my sister had picked out. She always said I didn’t dress ‘fancy’ enough, so it seemed she’d picked up some tight pencil skirts and blouses for me. Sure, I wear heels, but not this kind of stuff. I was in a hospital, not going for a job interview. But, it was the only clothes I had so I had to grin and bear it. I pulled my wet hair into a bun and then washed my face free of makeup streaks, then brushed my teeth. And because I was up so early, I took the time to put on my makeup carefully, and an hour later, I was good to go.
