I'm Sorry, Do I Know You?

I'm back! Did you miss me? Basically, this isn't fan fiction (shocker!) this time but it's more of just something I wrote. I hope you like it. (:

2. Chapter 2 - Flashback

“Hello?” I picked up the phone.

“Rach, it’s me, Jake. Did you want to come over?”

“Sure. Ten minutes?” I smiled.

“Yeah. See you then.” He hung up the phone.

I didn’t even bother trying to dress up, I was still in my work uniform which was only a plain black dress so I was okay. I put on some heels that I found lying around in my apartment and I was good to go. Jacob only lived a short way away, and I could walk it easily. I looked around incase I had forgotten anything, only to see my sister, Sarah, standing in the doorway of her bedroom.

“Where’re you going?” She asked casually.

“I’m only going round to Jake’s.”

“You be careful, okay?”

“Sar, stop acting like you’re my mother. It’s my apartment, I can do what I want. Okay?” I grinned.

“I don’t care. You’re younger and therefore I’m taking care of you.”

“By a year and a half, Sarah.” I scoffed. “I’m off, see you later.”

I walked up the stairs to Jake’s flat. Like me, he lived in an apartment building, but he lived alone in his, unlike I who shared with my sister. I knocked on the door three times. He answered in seconds.

“Rachel! You were quick!” he beamed, pulling me in for a hug and kicking the door shut behind me. I smiled.

“Hey, Jake.” I grinned, kicked off my heels and sat on his sofa. “So what are we doing tonight? Movie night? You know, I haven’t seen the Harry Potter’s in a while... Ooh, can we order pizza?”

“Actually, I was thinking we could go out tonight. I take it you haven’t eaten yet?” He looked over at me, smiling sweetly.

“Nope, not yet. That sounds cool.” I jumped up again, put on my shoes, and smiled up at Jake. He smiled back, putting his shoes on and grabbing a jacket.

“Let’s go.” He said, shutting the door behind us.

“And that’s why Marianna doesn’t like Helen in her office without Marianna being there.” I finished my story as Jake laughed loudly. We were walking to the restaurant because I didn’t have my car and Jake’s friend was borrowing his.

“God, I missed conversations like these.” He sighed. “It’s been ages since I last saw you.”

“I know, ridiculous, right? I’ve just been so busy with work, I can’t afford time off right now.”

“And I’ve had my manager on my back all the time recently. It sucks, but this is nice. I missed seeing you.”

“I missed you too, Jake.” I looked around where we were. “How far away is this restaurant? We’ve been walking for ages.”

“Not too far now. We just gotta cross this road...”

He walked towards the crossing, and I ran across playfully, laughing. He shook his head and ran after me. And then it stopped. He didn’t see the car. The next few seconts seemed to last hours, everything in slow motion. The white lights illuminating his face in the dark. His smile falling from his face, replaced by a look of sheer horror. His body falling to the floor. The car grinding to a halt.
