Trapped

I love The Hunger Games, and books set in the future, so I decided to try something out in that sort of area.

It's about a girl (called Kate), who has lived all her life inside one building. Years ago, an unknown disease spread throughout Britain, and so hundreds of survivors have been hiding in 'Safe Colonies'. This is the story of a girl desperate for freedom.

Sorry if it's terrible-it's my first movella!

4. Breaking the Rules

Rule 3: Everyone is equal. No one should have a certain quality to give them a special status.

I leaned against the wall, desperately trying to look casual. I am not breaking the rules, I am not breaking the rules, I told myself. But deep down, I knew I was, and damn would my mum give me crap for it! I rubbed my sweaty palms together to distract myself from thinking of all the possible consequences if I was caught skipping chores.

Just as I was about to run for it, Alec appeared around the corner. I breathed a sigh of relief and speed-walked towards him.

"Finally!" I whispered as he raised his eyebrow, "I thought you'd just left me!"

For the first time, he laughed. It was just a short laugh -more of a chuckle, really- but for a few seconds I was mesmorised, caught up in the deep, throaty sound of it.

"And I was doubting that you'd actually turn up," he said. His blue eyes were smiling as he said "I'm impressed."

Offended, I retorted, "You don't know me." I crossed my arms. "I might skip chores all times. For all you know, I might be a badass ninja."

Now he really laughed; the noise filled the now-empty corridor. I suddenly realised that everyone was at their chores. Nervousness started to settle in my stomach. Sensing my discomfort, Alec grabbed my hand.

"Let's go," he said and pulled me off into the darkness.
