The Summer I'd Never Forget.

What happens when 17-year-old Sadie Linten and Niall Horan spark a romance? Will it work out, since they're both on vacation in Florida for only two weeks?

15. Square One.

Niall's P.O.V.

"I know this must be hard. I couldn't imagine going through this, babe," I blurt after sitting silent in the room full of tension for a bit.

"It is, Niall," Sadie whimpers. As we talk for a while, she starts to feel more comfortable around me. I can tell by the way she looks at me with twinkling eyes. The nurse makes her rounds through the half empty hallways every hour, making sure Sadie is doing well.

"You will be released tomorrow, by the looks of it," the lady in white announces once she stops in the room for the fifth time today. Sadie lets a sigh of relief slip out of her throat. "We've made sure everything is okay," she assures us. We talk the night away, laughing together. A few times throughout the fun, a tiny bit of crying occurs. I try to make Sadie feel better by telling her things about her family and Kayla that she had confided in me just days before. She'd nod and smile, sometimes her eyebrows would furrow together in concentration. She would be deep in thought, trying with all her might to remember. Eventually, she'd just give up. Every time. She rests her head on my chest before falling into a deep slumber. It feels good, at this moment. Everything feels normal. Deep down inside, I know it's not, and that's what gets to me. I tangle my fingers with hers, trying to take up as little space as possible on the small bed. I smile as I watch her sleep, before slipping into my own peaceful sleep. I have this gut feeling that everything would turn out fine, even if Sadie didn't get her memory back.

The Next Morning

"Here are all of the medicines I've prescribed. There's only a few, and you won't need to come back for refills. One and done," the nurse says with a forced smile. I cringe at the fake happy tone in her voice.

"Thanks," I mumble, sliding the money towards her. She gracefully takes it from me and stuffs it into the register. I lead Sadie to the car, prescription in one hand, her hand in the other. I toss the medicines in the back seat, not wanting to think about the tragic turn of events yesterday. I start the ignition, slamming my door closed. I wiggle into my seat-belt. Sadie does the same, placing her hand in mine once we were both situated. We drive down the highway in comfortable silence.

"What if I don't remember, Niall?" Sadie asks me, breaking the quiet. She looks over at me, eyes tinted with sadness and fright. My heart sunk. I regretfully answer her question.

"Then I guess we'll just have to start over, and go back to square one."
