8. Dangerous friends

The mystery blonde haired guy didn't seem particularly kind when I met him in reality, or in the dream, but on Friday morning I had a pleasant surprise. I was still upset about what happened at Jade's house - I vowed to try and avoid Riley as much as possible. This included skipping English, which didn't bother me much. I had a feeling Mr Davenport was going to show us a 'tragic scene' in Edward Scissorhands today, which I would love to avoid.

I walked briskly to the place where I had first seen him, and he was there again. He was sitting at the base of a maple tree, reading. He brushed his hair aside with his hand, and I noticed the ring on his finger, the scar on his hand. I approached him.

He greeted me with a smile, slipped the book in his bag and stood up. I opened my mouth, before realising I had no idea what I would say. But luckily he saved me.

"Not a budding student then?" He winked at me, and I couldn't help but blush. This wasn't like me at all, but he was the first person who had made me smile for ages.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Romeo," he replied. "And I have an older sister called Juliet, and a little brother called Paris. My parents are very into Shakespeare." He rolled his eyes. I laughed, and felt strangely honoured that he had shared something personal.

He nodded. "Your turn."

We sat down under the maple tree and talked. Just about family, friends, normal stuff. It was nice.

Too soon, Romeo stood and brushed his hair back from his eyes. I expected a witty comment, but what he said shocked me.

"Be careful who you are friends with."

His words stayed with me long after they left his lips.
