9. Engaged

The city was beautiful, it reminded me of when I went to an exhibition and there was this fake little street of Victorian England. When people looked at me they gave me a weird look, almost like they were trying to remember where they knew me from. When that happened I snuggled into Adrian and they looked away from me, obviously embarrassed about being caught. The twin red suns made the streets darkish instead of lighter so there were lamps that kept the stone streets lit. Adrian walked me all over the city but I never complained or got bored or tired, this was the place I had once called home but could no longer remember. This was the place I was once the princess of,  every time someone looked my way I remembered that.

"Lexa I know this may be a strange request but how would you like to meet my mother?" Adrian asked as we walked along a street with a row of houses lined up along it. Meet his mother? It was a strange thing to ask but it sounded... right, like somehow it was something I had always done.

"Um, sure." I said and followed Adrian to a small, beautiful house. Flowers hung from the walls, roses and violets and daffodils, my three favourite flowers. I hesitated just outside the doorway that Adrian had somehow opened without a key, inside the house the walls were a beautiful rose pink and the carpets were navy blue. Adrian saw my hesitation and stepped forward, tacking my hand he pulled me further into the house. The pictures that hung from the wall were of two people, a girl and a boy both smiling, Adrian and I. We looked so young in these photos, we also looked like we didn't have a care in the world. I stared in awe at the pictures, wishing that they were what my life was like now because there only seemed to be happiness in these pictures. A woman suddenly came rushing into the hall and she gasped when she saw me.

"Dear goddess! Adrian what have you done?!" The woman screamed as she looked over me in what seemed to be horror, I shied away into Adrian's side and stared wide eyed in fear. My heart pounded in my chest so loudly I was sure Adrian could hear it, he curled his arms around my waist. The woman stared at his arm in utter shock and disbelief. "We hid her for a reason Adrian, how could you bring her back here for your own selfish reasons?!" The woman cried again, what was she talking about.

"I only brought her hear because she was in danger! He found her mother, he found her because she remembered this place on her own. I told you long before that the past didn't matter to me, you know I would do anything and everything to protect her!" Adrian growled back. I stared at him in surprise, what was he talking about now?

"Adrian, what do you mean, what past?" I asked quietly and the woman looked back at me, her eyes kinder now and calmer. Adrian looked down at me in self hatred, what was wrong?

"He is talking about the engagement Princess Lexa, the two of you were engaged."
