Tonight's Cloudy Sky (Niall Horan Fan Fiction)

A very wise man once said that- when it came to life- you never knew what you were going to get. It's a sort of philosophy for Amelia, who's experienced her fair share of downs and is currently waiting for the ups. And when they finally do come to her... well, what goes up must come back down.

17. You Can't Be Serious...

There was the constant clinking of silverware on plates and the chatter of people floating around the small café. We were adding to the noise, laughing and telling stories.

“I remember, this was about four years ago when Amelia was fifteen, we had a sleepover and we stayed up till three in the morning. And then in the morning when mum, Livy and Brittany came to pick me up, we were knackered and could barely move! Amelia was worse, though. She just laid down on the parkway outside of her house and practically fell asleep!”

I groaned as Meredith told them. I had wished for this to stay between the two of us, but I should have been glad it stayed secret for as long as it did. Meredith had a whole closet full of stories about me. I dreaded the day that they all came out.

“So I’ve got this picture, right, where she’s lying on the pavement and she looks like a starfish with her arms above her head! I had it as her contact picture for the longest time!”

Everyone was cracking up as we snacked on our sandwiches, and I couldn’t help but smile. The story was funny, just slightly embarrassing. But it wasn’t as bad as the stories I’ve stored from when Meredith got smashed on her eighteenth birthday. So at least I had some leverage against her. I, on the other hand, had vowed never to drink alcohol- mainly so that the girls didn’t have any stories about what I’d done.

I was about to ask them to change the subject or at least turn the attention to someone else, but I felt a buzzing feeling in my pocket and I pulled it out quickly. Could it be him? Possibly asking to see me again?

Quickly unlocking my mobile, my heart stopped and I started smiling widely.

From: Niall

what are you up to, beautiful?

I held in a squeal and took a deep breath before typing a reply.

To: Niall

Just out eating lunch :) u?

From: Niall

chillin with the boys… they actually want to meet you

I looked up at the girls, who I noticed had turned silent. They were staring at me, their eyebrows arched.

“Who are you talking to?” Ariel asked before taking another bite from her sandwich and the others leaned in slightly, waiting for my answer.

“Niall,” I said hesitantly. They began smiling like crazy and going off into their separate conversations about the boys they fancied. I grinned and looked down at my mobile again. Was this really happening? Was I about to accept an invitation to meet One Direction?

But then I reminded myself that I had already met them all… and then I ran out of the room crying. It seemed like such a petty thing to do now, but back then it was my whole world collapsing around me. I felt like meeting them was going to be the high point in my life, and that I had ruined it. But now, a few days later, I knew that life was only going to get better after meeting Niall.

To: Niall

I’d love to meet them- properly I mean. Last time was a bit embarrassing

From: Niall

theyre going to love you Amelia :) x

I smiled and closed my eyes, savoring this perfect moment. I took a deep breath and looked up to see Meredith frowning at me.

I didn’t say anything; just sent her a quizzical look as if to ask ‘what’s wrong?’. She stared at me blankly for a few more seconds before blinking, snapping out of her trance-like state. Meredith shook her head and mustered a smile before sitting up straighter and turning to talk to the others.

I could still see a bit of sadness in her face as she talked with Janessa. I have known her for so many years now; I knew what she was hiding something. I had an itching feeling I the back of my mind that it was about what she read on her phone a couple mornings ago. What was so bad that she hasn’t been able to forget about it?

I could stop all of this now and look it up myself on twitter, but I didn’t know if I should. If it was critical that I knew, Meredith would have told me. She’s my best friend and she will always be there to protect me. But I couldn’t help but think. What was did she need to protect me from?

Trying my best to forget, I turned back to my mobile.

From: Niall

theyre going to love you Amelia :) x

His last text message was so sweet, I felt like I could yell to the whole café that I had gone on a date with Niall Horan. I felt like telling the world! Because here and now, everything was perfect.

I poised my fingers over the keyboard, trying to think of how to reply. I was out with the girls and we were having a scary movie marathon later. Would they understand if I canceled? Surely they would.

To: Niall

I hope so! I’m out with the girls right now, so after I get home we can meet up :)

I looked up at the girls as they talked amongst themselves. I could make this up to them later. They knew how important it was for me to spend as much time with Niall as possible because I had no idea when this would last. It could be over in a week from now, but hopefully I would have spent as much time together as possible.

My mobile vibrated again and I almost screamed when I read the text. The girls were going to flip!

From: Niall

no bring your friends over too! I want to see if theyre as crazy as you described them :)

Typing a reply, I told him that they would love to come, even though I hadn’t asked them yet. But I really didn’t have to ask them- I could read their minds when it came to stuff like this.

To: Niall

They would love to come! What will we do? Just get to know each other?

I looked up expectantly at the girls. They had no idea what we were planning. How would I tell them? Casually and hope they don’t pass out? Or take them home first and let them scream all they want?

From: Niall

i dont know really.. do you have anything in mind?

Then it came to me- hot guys were great, but gorgeous guys were even better to have near when there was a scary film playing! Oh, I could imagine it now; Janessa clinging on to Harry’s shirt with his arm wrapped around her, Ariel and Zayn hiding behind a pillow together, Meredith and Louis making funny faces at the tellie and Mattie and Liam holding each other as the scariness ensued. Sheer perfection.

To: Niall

We were actually planning on having a scary movie marathon later. Care to join? Would be loads of fun, lots of junk food, all the lights off, and loads of screaming ;)

From: Niall

you had me at junk food. ive asked the boy and its unanimous! what time & same place i dropped you off at?

Trying to keep it cool, I managed to give a response.

To: Niall

Haha how about 2? We’ll shut the windows so it’s dark and yeah- same place. Room 508 :)

So that was it. I had basically just set up my four best- and single- best friends with four gorgeous- and single- boys. It was just an added bonus that those boys just happened to be their every thought. It was going to be perfect.

The hard part was telling them without them freaking out in this very public place. I placed my mobile on the table and scooted forward loudly, bring attention to myself. The girls turned to me and I smiled.

“So, I was talking to Niall, and he wants to do something with me later.” I decided to break it to them slowly and let them process every bit of information.

Mattie sighed, placing her drink back on the table. “So you’re not going to watch Insidious with us?”

They all groaned and I kept my smile wide.

“Not exactly…” I dragged it on, hoping they would catch on soon.

Meredith was the first, her face dropping.

“Holy shit you can’t be serious.” She gasped and tried to laugh it off. “Amelia- Amelia be serious now.” Her smile was wiped away when she figured I was being legitimate.

“Oh my god,” Janessa whispered and her hands flew up to cover her mouth. She was shaking her head and looking around at the others.

“What is it?” Mattie asked in a panic. “What’s happening?!”

“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!” Ariel squealed quietly and starting hyperventilating.

Mattie turned to me. “Amelia what’s going on?! I don’t get it!”

“Mattie, they coming over to meet you guys.” I wrapped my arm around her still shoulders as she froze in shock.

“Are you serious?” She asked me, barely moving. “Please tell me you’re being serious. I swear, if you joking-”

“Yes, girls, tis true! Niall is bringing the boys over for the scary movie marathon!”

There was a moment of silence and I thought that maybe they had all gone into a coma. That thought was a second too early.

All hell broke loose in that little, peaceful café.

Needless to say, we were kicked out shortly after.
