Tonight's Cloudy Sky (Niall Horan Fan Fiction)

A very wise man once said that- when it came to life- you never knew what you were going to get. It's a sort of philosophy for Amelia, who's experienced her fair share of downs and is currently waiting for the ups. And when they finally do come to her... well, what goes up must come back down.

4. Home

As we continued to pack my things, there were several moments where I had to stop. I wanted this- I really did, but I was going to miss mom and Ryan.

At the moment, I was sitting on the floor looking at a picture of the three of us. We were at the park, and mom and I were posing with Ryan behind us on the swings. It was taken a while ago, just after we moved to England.

I took a deep breath as I tried to calm myself down. Janessa sat down next to me and rubbed my back comfortingly.

"Amelia, you'll be able to call your mom every week. Heck, you can call her every day! They can both come over and visit every weekend if you like. This isn't good bye! And you'll be with your four best friends constantly... how could life get any better?" She joked. I nodded, not being able to reply. She reached for my phone and I nodded again, granting permission. She took it and unlocked it easily because I hadn't been bother to password protect it yet.

I saw her scroll through something and then type in something. She handed the phone back to me without locking it and I looked at the screen. It showed a contact titled 'Mummy' and it had my home phone number below it. I smiled at it and then thanked Janessa.

"No problem, Amelia! Now, go get changed, we’re almost done packing!" I laughed and stood up. I gently placed the picture into one of the cardboard boxes and turned to see what had been done already. All of the posters were folded and in a neat pile, my clothes were almost all put away, and my bookshelf was completely empty.

I walked over to Meredith. “What haven’t you packed yet? I need to get dressed.” Meredith acknowledged my presence by giving me a thumbs-up. Her eyes wandered the remaining clothes and she tapped her fingers on her chin. Suddenly, she grabbed a dress and shoved it towards me without thinking twice.

“You should totes wear this,” is all Meredith said before she grabbed more of my clothes for packing. I looked at the dress and smiled. This was one of my favorite dresses, and Janessa had given it to me a while back as a random present. It was a spaghetti strap dress with tribal-like stripes.

I nodded in approval. “What shoes?” I asked Meredith, who had moved out of the closet and was placing clothes in the suitcase.

“The Doc Martin’s I got you for Christmas!” Ariel exclaimed.

I knelt down and grabbed the shoes along with some socks. I closed the closet door and began to change out of my pajamas. Once I had slipped into the dress, I opened the door. I struck a pose and the girls clapped.

“Beautiful! But here,” Meredith took off the sleeveless jean jacket she was wearing and handed it to me. “It’ll look ten times better with this.” Now, she was only wearing a pink blouse and her kakis, but her leopard shoes maintained the ‘wow factor’.

[A/N- here is Amelia’s outfit: And this is Meredith’s:

I slipped on the vest and Meredith beamed at the outfit. “Totes,” was all she said as she turned back to packing.

I sat down on the floor and slipped on the shoes. Once I was situated, I looked around.

Ariel and Mattie were relaxing on my bed looking at their phones. "How about this place? It's not too expensive." Ariel showed her phone to Mattie, who in turn nodded. Ariel passed Meredith the phone and she squeaked.

"PERFECTAMUNDO!" Meredith yelled as she passed it to Janessa. Janessa's perpetual smile grew bigger and she handed me the phone next.

I stared in shock at the beautiful apartment complex; I scrolled down the information page and gasped at the price. Way. Too. Expensive.

"Whaaaaaat?! No, no, no, no, no, no, no!" I scream- whispered to myself.

"What's wrong?" Mattie asked.

"How about we find something a bit cheaper, okay?"

Meredith sighed, "Oh my goodness guys, little bitty Amelia must be deaf!" She rushed over to me and grabbed my shoulders. "AMELIA- WE HAVE MONEY. WE PAY FOR FLAT. YOU NO NEED TO PAY. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" She yelled in my ears.

I jumped back, covering my head. "Okay! Okay! I understand! No need to kill my eardrums!" I fell to the floor, pretending to be seriously injured.

The girls giggled and Meredith walked over to pat me on the head. I looked up at her as she loomed over me, grinning smugly.

"From now on, no one can show cheapo over here the price of anything! Capeesh?" She looked around at the others. They all nodded their head vigorously. Meredith continued. "Raise your hand if you want to live in that flat?" She raised both of her hands up, and the others followed. I sheepishly raised mine, also.

Meredith triumphantly raised a single fist in the air. "FOR ASGARD!" She yelled, making a total geek reference to Norse Mythology.

We all laughed and finished packing my clothes. When we were almost done, Mattie walked out of the room to arrange to rent the apartment because we were being too loud. I was in a much better mood from the laughing and the idea that I was going to be living with my four best friends in just a week. I wasn't as worried about mom and Ryan anymore; I would get a better paying job in the city, and send back money whenever I got the chance. This move was better for everyone.

Then, Mattie walked back in with a smile on her face and she joined us on the floor.

"So, we'll be moving into the flat tonight! I've already paid for half a year, so we're pretty much all set!"

We all started throwing questions her way at the same time.

"How much do I owe you?"

"Is it furnished?"

"How many rooms?"

"How long will it take to get there?"

Mattie wiggled her hands at us to shut us up. "You owe me nothing; it is furnished, we each get a room and on-suite bathroom, there's a living room, dining room and kitchen; London is only an hour and a half away. Is that everything?"

We all nodded and continued to freak out about what was happening. We talked about what jobs were going to apply for- we decide that each 6 months someone different would pay for rent. It would be easy for the girls, but I knew that I would have to work my butt off to be able to pay.

Eventually, we got up and grabbed my bags, heading for the door. I gave mom and Ryan another hug and wrote down my new phone number. Hastily wiping the tears away, I scurried out of the apartment after the girls. As we walked out of the building with all my boxes and suitcases, Meredith wrapped her free hand around my shoulder. “It’s going to be perfect, Amelia.”

Ariel, who was loading the stuff into the truck of her car, piped up. “Cheer up, Charlie!”

Janessa squeaked, “I love that movie!”

We all laughed and got into the cars. It was Ariel, me and Meredith in one car, putting Janessa and Mattie in the other. We were going to go to each of their houses to pick up their stuff, and then we were going on our road trip to London. Apparently, the girls had already been planning on moving to London, but they had decided to tell me on my birthday as a surprise. Meredith informed me that, if I had declined the invitation, they would have tied me up and dragged me to London if they had to. I was glad it didn’t have to come to that.

Once we made to around to everyone’s houses, grabbed their stuff and said goodbyes, we started to London. Luckily, Mattie had a Cadillac Escalade and was able to fit all of our stuff.

On the drive to our new home, we were listening to One Direction nonstop. I loved that I had best friends with whom I could quote One Direction moments with, and who knew every word to every song they ever sung. To know that I never had to hear again from the kids at school who kept telling me how they were in love with Lewis and how Niall was ugly was amazing.

The trip, as expected, was only about an hour long. And I didn’t know how much longer I could have made it, sitting in the middle row with stuff crammed all around me.

It was 12:30 when we made it to London. Words cannot describe how different it was from Portsmouth. There were so many people and beautiful places to visit. As we drove around, I saw gorgeous buildings that looked fit for the Queen. I spotted another in the distance, and was excited to get closer. As we drove towards it, I knew that this was going to be the most amazing building of them all. I stared in awe and I pressed myself to the window.

To my surprise, we stopped in front of it.

“Welcome home!” Ariel cheered from the driver’s seat.

Meredith turned from the passenger’s side to look at my reaction. She tapped Ariel on the shoulder. “I think we killed her.”

Ariel also turned to me. She gasped dramatically and reached forward to place two fingers on my neck. “Oh dear Lord, she’s gone and died from all the amazing-ness!” She pretended to faint and Meredith fanned her. Ariel peaked at me, smiling.

They had to be kidding. This was our home?
