Tonight's Cloudy Sky (Niall Horan Fan Fiction)

A very wise man once said that- when it came to life- you never knew what you were going to get. It's a sort of philosophy for Amelia, who's experienced her fair share of downs and is currently waiting for the ups. And when they finally do come to her... well, what goes up must come back down.

23. He's Here

They say there are five stages of grief. I guess you could say I was in depression at the moment as I curled up in my bed, ignoring my phone as it buzzed incessantly in my pocket. It was either Niall or one of the girls, but I didn’t care. No one came knocking on my door, and I presumed that it was because they were all cooped up in their own rooms, thinking this situation over. How were the boys ever going to regain their trust? Janessa and Mattie will probably find it in their hearts to listen to Harry and Liam’s explanations, but I knew that Meredith and Ariel were going to resist Louis and Zayn with everything they had. I wasn’t quite sure where I fit in- if I would listen to Niall or hold strong with Meredith and Ariel. Just thinking of Niall made me smile, though I was quick to wipe it away.

My phone fell silent for an unusually long time and I looked down at it.

17 Missed Calls, 23 Text Messages

“Stop calling me!” I huffed and tossed my phone to the foot of my bed. “I don’t want to talk to you!”

I rolled over and shoved my face in my pillow. It seemed that I have spent most of the past couple of days in my bed moping, but I really didn’t care.

My phone began ringing again and I groaned even louder, probably loud enough for everyone in the flat to hear. If he wanted to talk to me about it, he would have mentioned it earlier when he was here and not waited for me to find out through twitter or someone else. There were plenty of opportunities for him to tell me.

I didn’t know what to do; should I just accept that he’s leaving and keep up a long distance relationship with Niall, or should I call it quits to save myself extra heartbreak? I lay motionless in bed, thinking about my options as the phone continued to ring.

“Amelia!” there was a knock on the door and I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes. I had fallen asleep, and when I looked over at the clock, it confirmed that I had been out for quite a while.

“Amelia, its tea time. What do you want to eat?” Mattie knocked again and I walked over to the door. I opened it and leaned against the wall. She looked tired, constantly taking deep breaths.

“I’m not hungry,” I say and she nods. She didn’t say much. “I’m sorry, Mattie.”

She looked up at me with a sad smile. “It’s not your fault. I’m just sad, ya’know? I just wish they could stay a bit longer.”

I didn’t know what I could say that would comfort her, so I just smiled weakly at her. Mattie turned and walked back down the hallway, where a running Janessa almost ran into her.

“Oh, sorry!” Janessa said and continued to hurry in my direction.

“What is it?” I asked her and she smiled widely.

“He’s here,” she whispered, her eyes darting around excitedly. “Right outside!”

“Wait, what? You’re not making any sense.”

Janessa groaned. “You wouldn’t come out of your room and you wouldn’t answer any of his texts and calls-”

“Niall?! Niall is here right now?” I grabbed her shoulders to hold her still.

Janessa looked at me like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Yes! Of  course, Niall! Your boyfriend- remember?”

“Oh, god.” I whispered. “What am I going to say?”

How can I look at him and bust out in emotions? I had no idea if it would be anger or sadness, but I knew something would come out.

“Just let him explain,” she slowly pulled my out of my room, still smiling. She didn’t seem fazed at all by the news, actually.

“You seem awfully chipper.” I commented on her attitude and she blushed.

“Harry came over a few hours ago to explain and I actually listened to him,” she bumped into my hip and I sighed. I don’t know if I could be as understanding. We walked into the living room and no one else was in sight. America’s Next Top Model as on mute on the tellie, which was Janessa favorite show.

“How is everyone else?” I asked her, stalling a little bit on the journey to the front door where Niall was waiting. It was all I could think about- seeing his brilliant blue eyes and perfect face again, hearing his wonderful voice. I tried to distract myself from the fact that he was just twenty feet away from me, only separated by a wall.

Janessa seemed to notice my nerves and she frowned. “They’re in their rooms. Harry’s the only one that’s been over.”

“And Niall,” I whispered and she nodded.

Janessa stopped just five feet away from the door and I froze, looking at her with desperate eyes. I didn’t want to do this alone. After I ignored Niall, I had no idea how he would act.

She motioned me on and I hesitantly turned back to the door. I stepped forward alone and rested my hand on the door. I wanted to see him- no I needed to see him. I was miserable without him.

With new-found purpose, I opened the door.

There he was. He wasn’t facing me, his back turned to the door. He was looking at his shoes, his hands jammed in his pockets. I closed the door behind me, the click of the lock giving me away. He spun around.

I don’t know how, but I had completely forgotten how amazing his eyes were. We stared at each other speechless. He looked a wreck, his hair disheveled. He stepped forward.

“Amelia, I’m so sorry. I should have told you. I was going to tell you. But I didn’t know how to say it. I didn’t want this to end.” He stayed where he was, and so did I. I was frozen by his words, mesmerized.

Niall seemed to gain courage because he stepped forward. “Truth is- I like you. I like you a lot. Definitely more than I’ve ever liked anyone else. I didn’t tell you when I found out about the tour because I didn’t want you to think I was leaving you. You know that I wouldn’t leave you.”

“I know,” I said with surprising calmness. He smirked and came closer.

“I want everyone to know.” He whispers, his breath brushing against my ear. “Amelia, will you go on a date with me? Public to everyone- no secrets, no going out back alleyways, no secluded movie theaters. A real, proper date.”

I could hardly believe my ears. “Yes,” I laughed. “Yes, I’d love to!”

Niall cheered triumphantly and wrapped his arms around my waist before lifting me up and spinning me around. I let out a loud laugh, my arms tight around his neck.

He set me down and gave me a deep kiss. He pulled away, resting his forehead to mine, our bodies still intertwined. We’d gone through so much that has been a test to our relationship. What else could go wrong? Now it was just going to be smooth sailing.

How wrong I was to think that.
