Tonight's Cloudy Sky (Niall Horan Fan Fiction)

A very wise man once said that- when it came to life- you never knew what you were going to get. It's a sort of philosophy for Amelia, who's experienced her fair share of downs and is currently waiting for the ups. And when they finally do come to her... well, what goes up must come back down.

19. Casual Snogging

There was no telling who the first to run to the door was, but soon we were all crowded around, trying to look through the peep hole.

“Move your fat ass!” Meredith hissed quietly, but who she was talking to was unclear.

“You move yours!” Ariel retorted and I grabbed them by their shoulder to yank them back.

“Both of you- get back over to the couch! I’ll let them in so that you don’t attack them before you’re even introduced!” I managed to calm them down and they obeyed, walking back over to the couches. They sat down, staring at me intently as I turned back to the door.

I took a deep breath and rest my hand on the door knob.

“Everything is going to be fine, Amelia.” I whispered to myself; the boys were good boys- from what I had heard from Niall- and the girls were slightly sane. I knew they would behave. It would be difficult to tame them at this sort of moment, but I think I could do it.

The door clicked open to reveal five smiling boys. I could easily identify Louis, Liam, Zayn, Harry and Niall. They were pretty casually dressed, but they looked fantastic. I couldn’t help but smile and wonder if Niall chose that shirt to wear because it had a bowtie on it (bowties are cool).

“Come on in, guys!” I opened the door wider and they walked in, each of them giving me a quick peck on the cheek. And with each kiss, my cheeks grew hotter. Niall was last and I could feel his kiss lasting a bit longer than the others, his lips lingering slightly over my cheek.

“Thanks for having us, Amelia.” Those few simple words sent shivers down my spine, his accent clinging thick to his words.

I gave him a hug and he squeezed me tight. “It’s no problem, Niall.”

Our easy conversation may seem mindless and easy to the outside world, but I knew what it really meant.

When Niall said “thanks for having us, Amelia”, he meant “I really like you, Amelia.” And when I said “it’s no problem, Niall”, I really meant “I like you, too, Niall.”

He walked past me, his hand brushing against mine, sending my heart into a frenzy.

Come on, Amelia. You can do this.

I turned back to the girls; they seemed pretty chill, but I caught them looking at each other with a ‘is this really real?’ face, making me smirk. I wasn’t an old hand at hanging out with celebrities- basically the opposite. Here I was, having a casual night in with my five best friends and the five boys we loved. Just the idea gave me goose bumps.

I walked over to the couches, watching as the girls paired up with a boy and were talking. I couldn’t tell if it was a coincidence or not, but each girl was with the boy they liked the most. Niall was sitting in the middle next to the food, happily snacking on some crisps as he listened to the conversations around him.

Ariel and Zayn were discussing something that I couldn’t quite pick up on, but she had that wide smile which meant she was talking about something she really loved- which was either football or the Last Airbender. Ariel wasn’t normally a geek, but she got hooked on this show. From what I had learned in my past years on hardcore Directioner-ing, I knew that Zayn wasn’t the most athletic. So maybe he liked Avatar as well? That would score him mega brownie points with Ariel, besides the fact that he was Zayn Malik.

Mattie and Liam were sitting next to Ariel and Zayn, holding up mild chatter. They were laughing every few seconds, and I hoped that they weren’t telling each other all the weird stuff that their respective friends have done. Mattie had a lot of dirt on us, and no doubt Liam did as well.

Janessa and Harry were lounging on the second couch, and I had to hold back laughter. It was plain to see that he was pulling out all his charm to try and pull her, but she was completely oblivious to it. Janessa probably thought that he was being nice! Harry’s cheeky smile and dimples were being flashed every moment possible, and a smile never left Janessa’s lips.

Louis and Meredith- well, I was slightly afraid of what they were getting up to. They were both sitting on the floor, in the most far back corner possible, with their heads ducked together. Knowing Meredith, they were probably planning a prank to terrify us during the film. Great- I was going to have to keep an eye on them tonight to make sure they didn’t do anything stupid.

Then, there was Niall. His blond hair and blue eyes bringing me closer to him. In seconds I was sitting on the floor next to him, eating crisps as well.

“I don’t quite fancy scary movies,” Niall said, giving me a nervous look.

“Then why’d you come?!” I laughed, bewildered. I understood where he came from- scary films were the most horrible thing on the planet- but why would he voluntarily watch one?

Niall blushed and looked down at his lap. “I wanted to see you again.” He looked up into my eyes and I felt my lips tug up into a smile.

“I-” I was about to say something when I was interrupted by Meredith, who was standing up with Louis by her side.

“Before anything gets a little too out of hand,” Meredith gave me a pointed stare before turning back to all of us. “I think we should start the first film, which I believe is Insidious!”

While Meredith and Louis let out a triumphant cheer, the rest of us groaned.

“Really?! That’s the first one you chose? Why couldn’t we start with the easy ones and then work up to Insidious?” I pleaded and Meredith groaned.

“Like I’ve told you several times before- Insidious is only PG-13! It’s not that bad!”

“Oh, no,” I protested. “You told me that the first time we watched that when we were in grade ten. I will never fall for that lie again.”

“Well, now you have someone’s hand to hold.” She smiled sweetly and her eyes flickered to Niall beside me. I immediately started blushing madly and I could feel Niall doing the same.

“Let’s do this!” Louis cheered and sat back down as Meredith put the film in, pressing play.

All the lights were out, and all I could see was the bright screen in front of me that was going through adverts. Niall’s arm was pressed against mine as we leaned back on the table that was overflowing with food.

I was holding my breath, hoping that he would say something- anything- to calm my nerves right now.

He slipped his hand into mine.

“Squeeze my hand when you get scared,” he whispered into my ear, sending shivers down my spine.

“Prepare to lose circulation in your hand, then.” I whispered back, smiling. How could life get any better?

As if he was reading my mind, Niall swung his arm around my shoulders, our hands still linked, so that my left arm was resting across my chest.

“You’re so far away,” he added quietly. “Scoot closer.”

Smiling even wider, I moved to the side so that we were squished up next to each other; to complete my life’s ambition, I rested my head on his shoulder as well.

“Comfortable?” I asked him, lazily watching as another commercial came to an end.

“You have no idea,”

“TURN IT OFF! TURN IT OFF! TURN IT OFF!” I yelled and several people made a dash for the remote. I tucked my head into my knees as the sound of screams still filled the air. Tears were stinging my eyes and my heart was beating like a race horse.

“Hurry up, guys! What the fuck are you messing around with?! She’s freaking out! Turn it off!”

“Back off- I got it!”

“You’re being too slow!”

There was another scream from the film as the character was being brutally killed. I could hardly think.

There was silence and I could hear people taking a deep breath in relief. I stayed tucked into a ball, the previous scene still fresh in my mind. That was absolutely terrible. Oh my god, who would make that into a movie?!

“Amelia?” Janessa’s sweet, soothing voice made its way closer. “Amelia, are you going to be alright? We’re going to stop the marathon, okay?”

I nodded, slightly in shock. I took a deep breath and looked up, my eyes puffy and gross feeling.

"That was absolutely horrible, and I blame Meredith for that, you ass." I managed a smile and everyone let out a sigh of relief.

"Well, that was fun." Meredith pitched up a bag of crisps Maltesers and began snacking on them. Louis nodded and walked over to her, casually wrapping his arm around her shoulder and taking some candies from the bag she was holding.

Wait, he casually put his arm around her shoulder? Were they a thing? I could hardly see anything while we were watching the movies, partly because I was hiding behind Niall. Meredith and Louis could have been snogging the whole time!

They could have all be snogging the whole time!

Sure enough, everyone was very close with the other. Janessa was relaxing on the couch with Harry, his arm around her waist as she leaned against him. Her eyes were closed and he smiled like he just won a prize.

Mattie and Liam were being almost unbearably adorable, playing around with the food, making the other guess which flavour crisp they were feeding each other.

Ariel and Zayn were on the other couch, sitting close together. They were leaning back, their heads incredibly close together, talking quietly to each other.

I looked over at Niall, who was shyly sitting next to the TV. I had felt him jump up earlier to turn the film off.

He looked the exact same way I felt- terrified.

What if we did get together and he had to leave? What if he found someone else? What if the pressure of a relationship was too much? What if something happened to him?

There were so many possibilities that could stop us from getting closer. The girls knew the risks as well, but they weren't as cautious as I was. I knew what it was like to be left deserted. I had heard before that girls fall for boys most like their fathers. Would Niall leave me as well?

Looking into his crystal blue eyes, I knew that he wouldn't hurt me. He was the complete opposite of my father. Niall was kind and caring; he wasn't the type to lie and cheat and ruin lives.

I had a feeling he could make me happy. He could be the one to wipe away my insecurities. He could fix me. But that came with a cost- I had to let him in. I had to trust him with everything and not hold anything back. I would have to make myself vulnerable.

So many things could go wrong, but I also knew that so many things could go right. All I had to do was allow myself to finally fall for someone. After many years of keeping myself shut off from boys, I've finally decided to take a chance.

I'm going to trust Niall.

------------------------------------------------------

Bleh- such a long wait... SORRY! So you might not know this but Meredith, Mattie, Janessa and Ariel are based on four of my closest, best friends. And they have been nagging me for weeks to update. So here it is, guys! Happy?

And to my unnamed readers, I would like to apologize for making you wait so long! It will hopefully never happen again. Hopefully.

And as you may have noticed, there was a bit more cursing than usual in this chapter, but don't blame me. I can't control what they say...

Love you all xx
