The Time Of My Life

Cassie Holmes never expected to win the Win a Date with One Direction creative writing competition. She had only entered because it gave her another excuse to write; something she loves to do. She’s not really a fan of the boy band, but when she meets her date of choice, Zayn Malik, she can’t help but feel drawn to him. Zayn is focused on his career as a member of One Direction, but after reading Cassie's winning entry he is intrigued. Meeting her in person, he is taken with her wit and charm. Will what starts out as just a publicity stunt become something more?

6. ZAYN: Making Time (Part 1)

After the date I couldn’t stop thinking about her.  Her laugh, the way she talked about things and her enthusiasm for learning.

The guys teased me, saying that I was already in love with her.  I couldn’t be!  I’d only spent one day with her.  That’s not enough time to get to know someone enough to say you love them!  I said as much to the guys, but Harry and Liam both shook their heads at me like I was a child.

“Why don’t you call her?” Harry asked.  “What’s the worst that could happen?”

I didn't have Cassie's number so I called Jeunesse’s magazine editor and asked if I could get in touch with her.  After a little begging and flirting I managed to get her home and mobile numbers.

After agonising over what to say I finally dialled her mobile number.

She’d answered after a three rings.

When I said hello, she’d paused.  I’d sort of expected that. She didn’t seem the type to expect a relationship after only one date.  She had been surprised to learn that I’d got her number from the magazine editor and had asked why I’d done such a thing.  I admitted that I’d enjoyed the day we spent together and wanted to see her again.

It was wonderful to hear her voice, and I found that I liked talking to her about the things I did during the day.  It was definitely something I could get used to.

After that first phone conversation we talked and e-mailed whenever we could.  I was addicted to her.

We’d finished recording half of the album.  A lot of it had to be done over and over again until it was just right.

After a full day of recording, I was in our shared flat with Louis, as it was our turn to make dinner, my phone buzzed in my pocket telling me I had a new text message.  It was from Cassie.

Will b in London day after 2morrow.  Meet up?

Cassie had told me that her eldest aunt from Italy was visiting and they always made a trip to London at least once.  Cassie and I hadn’t been able to get free time together to meet face to face since the date, so this was a good opportunity.

I quickly texted her back asking her if she could come to the studio.  I also gave her the name and address.

She promptly replied and agreed to meet me there before lunch.

The day that Cassie was coming to London, we had to re-record some of the songs again as some of the cuts weren't up to standard.  I pulled some strings so that she would be allowed into the studio to watch.  I thought that she would be interested in seeing the things that went on in a recording studio.

Today we were recording yet another puppy love song.  But for some reason every time I sang this particular song, Cassie’s face kept popping up in my head.

By about half past eleven in the morning, it was nearly perfect.  But something was missing.

The studio itself was an old warehouse that had been converted into a recording studio.  There was a spacious reception area that led to an office, and two recording studios.

By about half past eleven in the morning, it was nearly perfect.  But something was missing.

Just then, one of the receptionists poked her head in and said that Cassie had just arrived.  I had asked to be told when she arrived.

The technician said we could take a break, so I went to fetch her.

She was seated in the waiting area, like she had been when I first saw her at the hotel on our blind date.

Cassie!” I called out as I walked up to her.

She smiled as she looked up.

She was dressed casually in blue jeans, a green tank top and white sandals.  She also carried a dark brown handbag over her shoulder

I pulled her into a hug.  It occurred to me just then that this was the first time I held her.  On our date I felt a bit awkward, it being our first meeting and all but now I was comfortable with her.

“It’s good to see you,” I said as I let go of her.

“It’s good to see you, too,” she replied.

“Shall we?” I asked, gesturing behind me.

She nodded.
