4. " I Met That Guy Again"

David---

Martin excused himself from the table and headed for the door, giving me a meaningful look in the process. I decide I couldn't really ignore him and bolt through the door at the end, so I figured I better go. The door creaked closed. Tension filled the air as I waited for the shouting to wash through me.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING DAVID? HUH? DO YOU REALISE WHAT YOU JUST LET GO? DO YOU NOT REALISE THAT THE "GREATS" IN THE ARCHITECHTURE WORLD WERE SITTING IN THERE WAITING FOR YOUR PRESENTATION, WHICH DIDN'T EVEN HAPPEN?! DO YOU REALISE THAT LISSINGER WAS WILLING TO GIVE US A $10000 INVESTMENT?"His face had gone a worrying shade of purple, so I figured I better come up with a good reason.

" You know I was fully supporting you, and wouldn't just "not bother" to show up Mar.."

Martin's voice was at an icy calm level.

"You know what David? I really don't care about your childish exuses. All you need to know is that your fired. That's all you need to know  David." As soon as he had said those paralysing words, he yanked the door open and returned to his seat at the meeting. I threw my suitcase on the floor and sank down to its level, a horrifying sinking feeling dragging me down from the pit of my stomach. I gazed wearily around me, and wondered what the hell I was going to do.

Lisa---

I was basically already out of my seat when the clock slowly strolled past one. Not only was I dying for lunch, I seriously needed a break from work. Everyone was getting on my nerves! Even Sofia a bit, constantly gossiping about "the cutest couple ever" Sam and Alesha. I just couldn't wait to get away from it all, and escape to the nearby cafe, which had sort of become my haven away from especially hectic days.

I stepped into the buzzing cafe and slipped into my usual comfy seat next to the window. I pulled out my purse and wandered over to the counter, glancing over the meals and figuring which one I was going to get. I decided on a tuna baguette and an iced tea. I paid for both and strolled back over to my seat, taking a sip from my iced tea. I fumbled about in my bag and gradually discovered my book- a slightly trashy novel that had been inspiring enough to keep me hooked. The cafe was filling up- with people coming in and out- the little bell near the door in almost constant toil.

As I began to sink into warm world the novel, I heard a voice nearby.

"Hi." The voice said. I looked up to see that man who I had spilt coffee all down this morning. I quickly threw down my book onto the glass table and rose from my seat. I stumbled to find the right words. "H- Hi. Look I am so sorry about this morning, if I have caused you any trouble I really do apologise, I really am a klutz sometimes. Oh by the way my name's Lisa.."

His reply was quiet " Well I suppose it caused a bit of trouble, I kinda got fired." He glumy slumped down onto the seat facing me, and I assumed he was going to have a rant at me. I gently melted to the seat, waiting for him to speak. Silence filled the air, so I threw in a reaction. "Oh."

" Yeah. But I can't do anything now. I'll just go to Lissinger or something and apply for a job there. I suppose I'm pretty well qualified. His weary expression woke up the tide of guilt that had been raging through me all day. " "Look,.." I stopped. I realised I wasn't even sure of his name. He guessed my thoughts, and replied "David"

I gave a grateful nod, and continued " Look David, seeing as I'm the one who got you fired, how about I help you find  a job?" As soon as I said this, I saw a little flicker of spirit come back to his eyes. " Yes! That would be great! I'm an architect, and jobs are pretty high paying around here so I can appl..."

" At Lissingers?" I assumed.

" Yeah, he has already made an interest in our staff, so maybe I could be a start!!"

I smiled. " So do you need my help?" I wondered casually. He looked at me, trying to guess my reaction. " Well, I suppose not, but if I am to move here, it would be nice to know someone..?"

I grinned. " Yes, that is good reasoning.... Ok then!" I didn't know why, but he seemed like an ok sort of person that I would quite like to get to know... I mean I would never do this usually, I really don't know what it was about today that had me feeling like this about people! Or him..? "So.. to get started on "getting to know eachother", would you meet me for dinner tonight outside the building you work in, say 7?" He casually questioned, although I could see the hope in his eyes that would be very difficult to put a dampner on.

"Alright then." I said. I suddenly remembered where I was- and quickly glanced down at my watch. Jeez, it was already 10 to 2! "Look David, I have to go back to work now, so I'll see you at 7, ok?" I started packing away my stuff, and realised I hadn't touched my baguette.

"Sure!" He grinned. " Ok then." I smiled, and decided to eat my lunch whilst walking. I tried to make a non-self concious exit, and failed. I found myself walking weirdly, as I knew that he was watching me leave. Anyway, soon the awkwardness was over, and weirdly, I felt ready to face anything!

The walk back to work was a leasurely one, even though time was scarce. As I walked through the sun drenched street, I felt at peace with the world- and felt the best I had felt in a very long time. Soon I had reached my building- feeling completely ready to face the numerous questions I was bound to face, especially from one person in particular.

I gently pattered up the flights of stairs and swiftly returned to my desk, a complacent smile plastered on my face. Sofia immediatley clocked this, and began the questions, the first being "Why the smile?"

I replied "I met that guy again." She leaned in closer, settling down for an afternoon of analysing lunch.
