My journal of thoughts and observations.

3. Childhood reading

Coming from a family that loves to read and learn, books have always been a part of my life in one way or another.  But I think I really started reading when I was 9 - 10 years old.  Before that I would just skim the pages and look at the pictures, if there were any.  I started reading most fantasy stories, legends and fairy tails.  The ones I remember clearly were CS Lewis' "Tales of Narnia" and JK Rowling's "Harry Potter" book, the first three, anway.

I also read books by Beatrix Potter and Shirley Hughes; also the Grey Rabbit books and the Hedgerow stories.  Most of these books had beautiful illustrations, mainly watercolour or ink.  I think it was these books that first interested me in drawing and watercolour painting.

Looking back I think I am very lucky that my parents always encouraged me to read.
