”Katrine, turn the music down!”, my mom yelled as always, you would think it had become her motto… I turned down the music, grabbed the last moving box and carried it into the van, it wouldn’t be long until we had to go. We were going to the USA, where i had always dreamt of living. I went into my room and got my iPhone. During the travel from Denmark to America, i listened to Darren Criss and Chris Colfer, my favorite idols, during the entire trip. Chris was also my role model. When we arrived i was totally knackered, I was so relieved that my parents had hired some movers to move all of our stuff into the house. I went into the house and looked around. I found a large room with a balcony and a great view. I knocked on the wall, a bit hollow, but it would do: I had found my new room. Two men came in with some of my boxes, and I started unpacking. I put my posters in one pile, my glasses and sunglasses in another, my clothes in a third and so on. When I was done, I lay down on the floor and started listening to some music. My dad came in, carrying my keyboard. “Honey, can you go get your guitar yourself?” he asked. I nodded and went out to get it. When I had put the guitar inside, we drove to a hotel where we had to stay the night. Tomorrow we were going to buy beds, drawers and other important things. It was only five in the afternoon, so I decided to take a walk down the streets of America. It was so beautiful, the sun was shining and it was comfortably hot. I loved it. Suddenly, someone walked past me. I “knew” him, it was Darren Criss! I turned around and looked after him, it’s now or never, I thought, but I remembered everything I was against – celebrities who were unable to walk down the street without being attacked by a group of teenagers and paparazzi’s. So with great disappointment, I turned around again and kept walking. I went into a café and got a cup of coffee, and then I continued my journey towards our hotel. I went past a café, where I heard Darrens voice. I went in to have a look, and I was right! There he was, on a small stage, talking. I was listening when my phone started ringing, and everyone was staring at me, including Darren. I said, “I’m sorry”, and went outside. It was my dad, who wanted to know where I was. I told him I was at The Revolution Café. When we were done talking I went inside again. Darren started looking at me and I blushed. He smiled at me, and began playing “New Morning”. When he started singing, I couldn’t help but smile, his voice always made me happy. When he got off stage, I went outside to wait for my parents. While I was waiting, someone started talking to me. I recognized the voice. It was Darren.

“You’re not from around here, are you?” He asked. I shook my head.

“No, I’m from Denmark, we just moved here, we arrived today” I smiled.

“Cool, then maybe I’ll se you again? What school are you going to attend?”

“Maybe. Lowell High School”

He looked surprised. “I went there as well. If you sing, maybe you can sign up for their glee club?”

I smiled and nodded.

“Katrine?” I heard my dad say behind me. I turned around and saw my parents waiting for me. My mom looked at Darren, and I could tell by the look on her face that she wasn’t pleased that I was talking to someone older than me. I turned around and looked at Darren. “ I have to go”, I said with a smile, and turned around to leave when he grabbed my arm and wrote his number on my hand. I looked at my hand, and then at him. He winked at me, and then we left. When we were sitting at the restaurant, waiting for our food, I added Darrens number to my contacts on my phone. My mom asked who the boy from the café was, and I looked up at her, and then at my dad. “It was the guy you told me to turn down yesterday” I said, and looked down at my phone again. I started writing a text to Daren. “Hey Darren, it’s the girl from the Café – Katrine” I looked at the text for a long time, and after five minutes, I deciede to send it. Our food arrived, and we began eating. We were talking when my mom suddenly looked down at my phone. It had lit up. I looked down, and saw that Darren had answered me. I took it and looked at the message.

”Hey Katrine. I’m happy we decided to text – Darren” I smiled and put the phone down again. I looked up at my mom, who were looking at my phone. ”Relax mom, Daren is my idol, that’s all it is. Dad, tell her to calm down” I looked at my dad.

”Actually, Katrine, i don’t think you should text him, he’s way to old for you.”

”He’s only 25 and i’m 17, which means that he’s only 8 years older than me, and how many years are there between you? 5 years. Okay, so stop saying that he’s too old. And he’s just my idol, and maybe even a friend.” I got mad, why couldn’t my dad support me, he always did, because my mom always opposed me.

When we got back to the hotel, i texted Darren, ”Hey Darren. I don’t know how wise it is if we see eachother anymore. I think it’s best if you’re just my idol, someone i can have hanging on my walls, someone i can have a crush on, without him knowing that i exist. I would love being your friend, but my parents agree with me. I’m so sorry – Katrine” I sent the message, and a tear rolled down my cheek. I had the opportunity to become friends with my idol, and because i did as my parents told me to, i had to let him go. I fell asleep before i saw his response.
