L'Ombra della Vendetta (The Shadow of Vengeance)

L'Ombra della Vendetta is a fanfiction about World of Warcraft.
Don't feel discouraged from its length, the story seems huge but is actually pretty short. I hope you'll give it a try.

This is a work of fantasy. The entire world where it takes place is owned by Blizzard Entertainment.
This story and its main characters are products of the author’s twisted imagination.

Its content may be not suitable for sensitive people, because it contains acts of violence even towards defenseless people.

9. Chapter 9

It was morning in Mount Hyjal, when from the usual quietness always present in the forests at the top of the known world, a small hole in the spacetime opened off. Two hooves materialized, then a long blue tail and two legs covered in a silver plate armor. Alongside, was appearing a slender figure dressed in purple, carrying a glowing sword on the hip. Few moments later, the two figures were complete again. Razlo the Crusader, wearing his shield on the back as well as his sharp axe, was asking to his friend with the pointy ears who poked out from the white hair, Loremaster Lithos, one of the usual questions which would receive some weird answer.

"How come you couldn't cast the portal to Ratchet but you can open one for Mount Hyjal?"

"The Cenarion Circle signed the international treatise" answered the Kirin Tor agent "Anyway Mount Hyjal is an allowed destination for those who own the D-5 license." And via materializing parchment with purple marks barely comprehensible "And as you can see, I possess this license."

"Okay, okay, I got it. Maybe." He looked around "Where should we go? This time we could take the time to salute the local leaders."

"I was thinking the same. But I suspect the local leaders are fighting on the front, now."

The mage stopped a night elf guarding the place.

"Hello, I have to ask you something."

The guard turned and squared his interlocutor, then he said coldly "What's a Highborne doing here?"

The Crusader reacted quickly, before his mage friend could say anything, forcefully throwing the guard to the ground.

"I see you noticed the color he's wearing, soldier." yelled to him, from the high of his militar ranks "This night elf, who you're considering a traitor for no reason, is a war hero. He defeated the legions brought in this world by Archimonde, ten thousand years ago. He defeated the Lich King. And at this time he's representing the Kirin Tor's aegis, so you'll give him due respect. Is it clear, soldier?"

"Y-yes sir."

"Good. Refer to him by the title of Loremaster, as it's done in the Violet Citadel."

"W-will do, sir." answered the guard, getting up carefully.

"There was no need, Razlo" said the mage quietly "But I thank you anyway. Maybe this guard will now make us the favor of pointing out where we could find whoever is in charge of Nordrassil."

"All the leaders are still in the Firelands, Loremaster. Right now the highest in charge here is the Lieutenant over there" he pointed "The sentry who's taking registrations for the new recruits."

The two walked away from the guard with a greeting, heading towards the sentinel.

"What do you think" said the paladin "Will I have to repeat the sketch?"

"Hopefully it will not be necessary. I don't think there are many elves that still discriminate against us, after the serial murders in Darnassus."

"What a grim event" agreed the mostachioed paladin, nodding "Who could ever thought Maiev would go crazy like that."

"Some say it was for the fel energy that surrounded her for so many years" said the night elf "But personally, I think that many years of war and imprisonment would be enough to drive insane anyone."

"Indeed" replied his friend, coming to the sentry's stand.

"The next one, please..." she told, weary "Name?"

"Loremaster Lithos of the Kirin Tor."

"And Razlo, known as the Crusader of the Silver Convenant."

The sentinel looked up from her papers.

"Good morning sirs" saluted the awkward sentinel, trying to show some enthusiasm "What could bring here two authoritative figures like you? Especially now that..."

"We're looking for two people" answered the mage "Since you see many people come and go, I think you could help us." "Sure, surely" replied the sentry "And even if I don't remember something, I have the recruits' archive."

"Great" thanked the Loremaster "You should give us informations about a rogue, a female gnome with scarlet hair and about a troll shaman, apparently a highly experienced veteran."

The sentinel thought over. "About the gnome, I don't think I can help you. We have some, even a couple of rogues, but no one matches your description. The shaman, instead... I think I know who you're looking for. That turncoat's face is printed on our wanted posters."
