4. Chapter 4

Approaching to the Violet Citadel, one could have clearly heard that inside some people were arguing. There wasn't the need to be mages to understand that this was related to the facts from the previous night.

Entering the grand hall, Aethas Sunreaver was yelling to Rhonin the latest threats of a diplomatic crisis between Horde and Alliance, with the embarrassment of those present. Veeresa Windrunner could hardly restrain herself from throwing an arrow in the face of the Archmage, while Modera, worried, tried to calm both. The only calm person in the whole room was the silent Zidormi, at the top of the grand staircase, representative from the Keepers of Time. It seemed that the mortals' vicissitudes couldn't even touch her, something that was putting instead to a strain the diplomacy of Master Rhonin, leader of the Kirin Tor.

"ENOUGH!" he yelled suddenly "Aethas, I can understand your sorrow in the loss of one of your protected, but you know well that in Dalaran everyone is, *we* all are, equal. Nobody receives a different dealing. I already sent envoys to investigate what happened" he added, pointing to a troll mage who was awaiting audience "Maho, what news do you bring?"

"Nothing we don't already know, Mastah" answered the troll "Nobody noticed anything, what I can report is that the tauren was little loved by the Filthy Animal guests. Drunkard, arrogant, rude. But killing him, no, I don't really think anyone of them could be done that. Besides, it seems he was an experienced warrior, a veteran."

Archmage Aethas hailed praises of the Horde, according to him composed of warriors with great ideals, moving then his gaze upon the leader of the Kirin Tor. "Is this all there is to your 'investigation'?" asked then to Rhonin, who answered quietly "No, I can see our Loremaster is back too. Come closer, Lithos."

"Master Rhonin" said the mage approaching, while his friend stood aside. Even those who don't practiced magic were welcome in the Violet Citadel, but Razlo had learnt to not interfere in mages' quarrels, if possible, they were even more stubborn than him.

"We have a reason to think that the murderer got information about the victim down in the Underbelly. And personally I think we could get more informations if I were to go to ratchet."

"I guess you have good reasons that support your suggestion." answered Rhonin, sensing something. "What else can I say, you have the permission of the Kirin Tor."

"Wait a minute!" objected Sunreaver "You must tell us. Who did this? Someone from the Alliance, right? You always talk about honor, but you all are savage creatures like that human king of yours."

Lithos did not answer the provocation. As far as he preferred Alliance to the Horde, he was faithful only to the aegis of Dalaran, the Eye peering into the depths of magic.

"What I'll find out, will be reported to the Council of Six" he added, without making reference to the suspected's race. Talking about gnomes at that time was definitely the move less beneficial for the purposes of the discussion. His thoughts were interrupted by Veeresa, who unexpectedly pointed behind the night elf. "Crusader! You seems interested to this matter. Would you like to join in the quest? I don't think the Silver Convenant needs your services here in Dalaran. Also, seems the murderer is proficient in melee fighting since he was able to ravage and experienced warrior that way. And you are certainly more experienced than your friend in that sense."

"It would be an honor for me, Ranger General" replied the surprised paladin.

"Awesome" ironically muttered Sunreaver "Besides the night elf, even a draenei. It will surely be an honest inquiry. I wish you good luck, Prince Lithos" he added, with the same irony.

The two took their leave from the group and, leaving the Citadel, the paladin said, "What arrogance, the iron mask" referring to the Archmage.

"Oh yeah" remarked his laughing friend "He's never been famous for the ability to control himself. But he controls the blood elves, and their group is getting larger and larger."

The two were on their way to a secluded corner of the peripheral gardens of Dalaran.

"I'll tell you what," added the champion "To me, he seemed worried."

"You think?"

"Like you said, Master Krasus passed away. It means there's a vacancy in the Council of Six."

"This is probably true."

"And you're the closest person to that missing spot. That's the reason behind irony, the personal attack to the Alliance and the reference to your past."

The mage paused to reflect "It makes sense. But let's hope that's not true."

"Why?" asked the Crusader.

"My work is already boring, try to think if i were to take part in the Council."

Arrived in the farthest corner of the gardens, the mage began to open a portal.

"I'd have to listen disputes like the one from before, day after day." he commented.

"Not even Prophet Velen's patience would be enough" joked his friend.

"I prefer to think of myself as a normal agent of the Magical City. An agent with a quest."

The two entered in the portal.
