The Lighthouse

Four best friends go on a terrifying journey to a deserted island called ‘Hells Teeth Island’. They are there to try and prove that the horror stories that have been told about the Lighthouse on the Island are untrue. But are they?

I was definitely shaken now; there was a presence I could feel. My stomach churned and I longed for my warm comfortable bed. No. I am not scared, there is no one there, they’re stories- lies- that the adults tell us so that we stay away from the lighthouse, from having fun. And with that thought I stubbornly forced myself to reach out a shaky hand to push the door open.

The door opened smoothly, only creaking slightly. That’s odd because that means that the door had been oiled recently, didn’t it? Things were becoming increasingly weird. Who added the new door knocker? Who oiled the door? And who was in the window? Things were getting interesting, and I want answers.

We all took a few steps into the lighthouse, being careful because of the rotting floorboards. And Timmy motioned for us all to regroup and take another picture, the flash went off again and there was that moment of being blinded again. This time I signalled that he should let me see the picture; he passed me the camera while shining his flashlight onto the screen so that I could see. Timmy and Danny then split off from us, as we had planned so that we could explore the whole lighthouse. He left the camera with Rose and me, flashed us a smile and disappeared up the spiralling staircase.

In the picture, standing directly behind us, was a shadowy figure. At that very moment the door slammed shut and the flashlights went out. In my ear all I could hear was screaming, coming from the direction Rose was standing. Liquid splashed onto my face and the screaming stopped abruptly.
