7. Backstage Drama.

We are taken back to our rooms to shower and sleep. I take off my dress and step into the shower, I wash off all the make-up and the glitter and gems from my hair, I watch as it sinks down the drain into the sewers below. I step out and dry myself using the towels provided. I walk to my bed and notice a pair of clean clothes, I change into them. I am about to settle down when a smash from outside my room startles me. I rush outside. A man lies unconscious on the floor, another man, fists all bloody, stands over him. He looks up at me then he just disappears. I scream and run to the man on the floor. I scream again when I realise who it is.

‘Oh my word! Somebody get help!’ Effie screams. I am pushed back and restrained by my father as my mother sooths the man.

‘He’ll be ok. Everything’s going to be alright.’ My father says. I am still annoyed. I want to find the person that did this. I kick my father and run in the direction of the attacker. I’m running through the building down the glass elevator, I still see the man. I catch up with him, he’s got a weapon.

‘Don’t come any closer!’ I note we are in the District Three floor. ‘What do you want?’ I shout.

‘I’m sorry, I needed your attention!’ He pleads.

‘And a simple knock on my room door wouldn’t do that?’ I snap.

‘I am trained as a fighter and I saw him approaching your door.’

‘He’s my mentor! He’s supposed to!’ I scream, hoping someone will come and take him or me away. No one comes. Yet.

‘I’m sorry, all I did was punch him.’ He looks genuinely sorry.

‘Fine. Why did you want my attention.’ He looks to the floor then gets closer to me. He kisses me on the cheek and runs off. I’m too stunned to move. I hear heavy breathing and footsteps coming down the corridor.

‘You ok kiddo?’ Haymitch says. His nose is all bloody and he needs a change of shirt.

‘I’m fine.’ I lie.

‘Get back to bed then.’ He grins. I run off to my room. But I can’t sleep.
