The Guardian Angel

Sixteen year old Caitlynn lost both her parents and her younger brother in a car accident. She has now been adopted by her aunt and uncle. She is looking forward to a hard life, but what happens when she meets Tedd, a kind but quite weird boy, and the mysterious Audrey, who tells her a story about different worlds, a kingdom, angels and God?

Note: I put the chapters up as pages - so each chapter is approximately one page in my Word document. AND, sorry for typos and mistakes - I rarely look back at it, so please forgive me.

Suddenly, something inside me exploded. I screamed both in agony, but also of the strongest feeling of power I had ever felt. It overpowered me, it felt like my chest was going to rip open. My eyes closed in pain, and suddenly I was at the ground, still screaming. I could not help it - but I opened my eyes, and everything was golden. As my scream died out, the world slowly came back, the forest covered in golden threads and glitter. My whole body was sore. I felt broken. I could not move. The tears continued to stream down my face, I could feel them slowly making their way into my ears. My skin tingled. My hair was all over, half of it covering my face. The ponytail that it had been in had fallen out.

“CAITLYNN!” A scream found its way to my ear. I didn’t understand it. Why was he yelling? What was he saying? I sounded like a foreign language. Again he screamed the word, and then it occurred to me. My name. I turned my head just as Audrey landed a few meters away from me, his wings dissolving. He looked hazarded. His chin was ripped, he was covered in dirt and his pants were full of scratches. He fell to his knees beside me.

“Caitlynn, are you okay? Answer me, Caitlynn!” he said while he carefully removed the hair from my face. The tears stopped. Audrey was here, now I was safe.

“Where were you…?” I managed to pass the words over my lips, but even to me they sounded oh, so weak and hard to understand. But he understood.

“There were more. Three of them got to me before I could get to you and they were so much stronger than I had thought possible. I hurried as much as I could, but when you started screaming…” he trailed off. He had been talking so fast, wanting me to hear him out, but it was not like I was going to interrupt him.

“I thought it had killed you… that I had lost you all over again…” I could tell that he hated how weak he was right now. His face was broken up with worry. He looked like an old man.

“What happened?” I asked a tiny bit clearer than before. I had an idea about what the gold had been, but I had to be sure.

He smiled. “It was you. Your magic protected you. You awakened it in a moment where you needed it the most. I could see it from far away. It looked so beautiful. It still does. Look around…” he said, and my eyes moved from his face above my own. He was right. It had not been imagination that there had been gold in the forest when I opened my eyes. Everywhere around us seemed to shine with a powerful glow, protecting us, and I could not help but smile slightly. Despite the pain that was eating my entire body, this was so amazing.

“So… you are hurt pretty badly. I will try to heal you, but I am not very good at it. Be as still as you possibly can.” He said, before holding his hands above me, a white glow forming around them. Holding them few centimeters above me, he started mumbling, moving his hands down toward my feet. I closed my eyes and did my best to absorb all the energy from the magic. After a couple of minutes, the pain was not eating me up any more. I still felt sore all over, but I was sure that I could get home before collapsing.
