The Guardian Angel

Sixteen year old Caitlynn lost both her parents and her younger brother in a car accident. She has now been adopted by her aunt and uncle. She is looking forward to a hard life, but what happens when she meets Tedd, a kind but quite weird boy, and the mysterious Audrey, who tells her a story about different worlds, a kingdom, angels and God?

Note: I put the chapters up as pages - so each chapter is approximately one page in my Word document. AND, sorry for typos and mistakes - I rarely look back at it, so please forgive me.

“Okay, listen. I do not think that this is any of your business, so please stay out of it. If you really think they think that, go ask them, not me. It really isn’t that hard.” Slam. She hit me. She hit me. A flat hand, right across my cheek. I could not believe it. The sound echoed of the walls of the bathroom, as my cheek started burning. I felt that power from yesterday rising, slowly, like a drowsy lion. I fought to keep it back.

“No one talk to me like that! You silly slut!” she said, and then she spat at my shoe. They turned on their heels and went ahead. I could not believe what had just happened. In a bit of a daze, I took some paper to dry of my shoe. She had called me a slut. What the fudge was that about? Because I could have more than one friend of the opposite gender? What kind of logic was that?

When I went into the classroom, Tedd and Audrey was talking in the corner. Audrey looked up at the same time I walked in. At the sight of my face, he got to his feet and both he and Tedd were beside me before I was halfway into the room. Audrey put his hand under my face, tilting it up so he could see.

“What happened?” Tedd asked, looking at me with a big frown. “Who did that to you?”

“Nobody. I fell.” I mumbled.

“Liar.” Audrey said. “I can clearly see the mark of a hand. Who did this to you?”

I didn’t want to answer, just looked away and went around them, and sat down by my table.

Caitlynn, who did it? I could hear Tedd talking softly to me, like I was a frightened animal.

Just leave it, please. I shot back at him. Then Audrey stood in front of my table, his hands on it, looking down at me with rage in his eyes.

“Caitlynn, tell me who did this to you. It is my job to protect you, and you are not making it easy.” He whispered to me, his voice somewhere between angry and frustrated.

“I am not going to run to you every time something happens to me. I can take care of myself.” I hissed back at him. “I won’t rely on you in a silly girl fight.”

“So they did this to you?” he said, pointing at the girls. Damn. I had told him without noticing. Jezz, that guy is good, I thought.

“The blonde one.” I said, looking out of the window, away from him. The next thing that happened was that Tedd poked me and told me I should see this. Audrey was approaching the girls, and they looked so eager that they couldn’t possibly know that they were going to get burned. The way they were shooting their chests forward told me that they were all determined to get him. Well, too bad. That was not going to happen.

Audrey went up to the blonde girl who had hit me, and with a rather loud voice, he told her to lay off me.

“What could you possibly mean, gorgeous?” she said in a flirtatious voice.

“I mean what I said. You lay a finger on her” he pointed at me in my corner, with Tedd beside me, hand on the back of my chair. “and I will make your life a mess. It is not going to be pretty.”

She looked pretty startled, and to my enormous joy, bloody scared as well. Then Audrey turned on his heels and went back to our corner.
