Sorry Mum, I'm a Lesbian

Harmony lives in a Catholic household in a Church of England society, and has never found it easy. But when she discovers she's a lesbian, she has to lead several different lives at once to cover up secrets that would make her friends and family ashamed. Her already complicated life starts getting harder to handle, so she asks herself: 'Would it hurt anyone to tell her sister?' She does, and that move gets her life spinning out of control. Can Harmony pull the right strings to untangle her knotted life?

18. Isla

I walked home on my own that day, Cassie was at the dentist. I was glad about that; it gave me some time to think and clear my head.

The gossip of what had happened in Drama spread like wildfire, and, well, I guess it went down better than I expected. About half the year group steered clear of me and Cassie, but the other half have come to create a new friendship group. Some are from my old groups - the Goths, Geeks and Weirdos - some now admire and respect us for 'admitting' it, some are secret lesbians too, but most are the popular people who I think are planning to bully us later. Cassie seemed okay with all the attention. Well not just okay, she loved it! I guess she didn't really see what was happening. Me, I was more weary.

Some of the things that the popular guys had said were quite funny actually!

"Oh, GBF's are sooooo funny like, so LBF's must be well hilarious!" I actually laughed when they said that, and I laughed even harder when Cassie didn't know what that meant. "GBF's right, are Gay Best Friends babe. You can work out LBF's." Said this really chavy girl, Zara. It's like they didn't know us at all; or any other lesbian for that matter. They were so stereotypical. We laughed along anyway. You don't argue with the populars, you just don't.

Zoey and her little group of friends looked like they were gonna be doing the best they could to make us feel unwanted. All day they were pulling some of our new 'friends' away for P.T's.(Another term I had to explain to Cassie: Private Talks) Most of the people that they pulled away came back to us giving Zoey an evil stare: I bet those are the people that will actually be our friends. Although, some of the others, usually the ones higher up in the popular triangle, chatted with them for longer occasionally looking back at us, and then either walking away with Zoey, or coming to us with strange smirks. I bet these are the fake friends that will do anything to bully us.

I was thinking about this when I walked into my bedroom door. 'Since when was I in the house already?' Then I saw Isla behind me.

"Harmony, come here a sec." She opened her bedroom door and ushered me in. Her room was smaller than mine and painted baby pink; I'm so glad I chose light green paint for mine because the pink was ghastly! Isla shut the door and sat on her bed.

"I know your secret."

What? I felt myself blush. Had Isla heard the gossip too? If she had then that was bad...

"What secret? I don't have any secrets, not one..." My voice started going squeaky, I was crap at lying! She smiled at me.

"Bitch please, you don't have to pretend. I know your a lesbian. Now shall I tell Mum now via the phone, or later at dinner?"
