The beautiful sun shone down on Wakefield Road as the inhabitants woke for their early morning jobs. The houses were in parallel lines along the outskirts of the small town of Charlesville. The houses were similar to cottages, with sandy coloured walls and pale brown roofs like ripened wheat.

Darcy woke to her room being flooded with purple light as the sun pierced through her spiceberry coloured curtains. A small head poked out the covers of the cream duvet. She was gorgeous. Even though her black hair was a mess it complimented her sun kissed skin perfectly. Darcy’s eyes were the colour of hazelnuts. She stretched her thin arms while stifling a yawn and then climbed out of her cosy bed. Her alarm had woken a mass of brown fluff at the end of her bed. Rum leapt off at the same time as Darcy. ‘Here boy,’ she said extending her arm out to him. He bounced towards her knocking her over. His rough sandpaper like tongue was scraping at Darcy’s face.

‘Eww,’ she said in disgust pushing him of her.

Darcy opened her oak door to the smell of freshly cooked toast and a strong smell of coffee. She raced down the stairs her feet sinking into the soft carpet.

‘ Morning dear,’ mum said kissing Darcy on the head and handing her a piece of hot, buttery toast. She sank her teeth into it. An explosion of taste erupted in her mouth as she crunched through the buttery goodness. Brooke was perched on the white chairs that circled around the dining table. She was leaning over a bowl of cereal while trying to apply mascara to her already long eyelashes. Her silvery- blonde hair was tied in a neat ponytail and her fringe was clasped back.  She smiled at Darcy as she sat herself down next to her.

Darcy had always admired Brooke partly because she was the only member of the family who had a good singing voice. Brooke was the complete opposite of Darcy. She had bright blue eyes that sat under neat arched eyebrows, a perfect straight nose and rose pink lips. Brooke was captain of the gymnastics team and she had achieved the highest mark possible for her exam in drama. Darcy knew that she would one day become a famous actress or gymnast who everybody looked up to.

Once Darcy was dressed in her new denim shorts and lacy top she brushed her silky brown hair into a perfect parten. She hurried down the stairs and gave her dad a peck on the cheek.

‘ Goodbye, have a nice day,’ she said with a dazzling flash of her pearly white teeth.

Her dad closed the door behind him with a snap. ‘Ready girls?’ Darcy’s mom asked as she swallowed a spoonful of crunchy honey cereal. Brooke and Darcy nodded. Mother set her bowl of cereal onto the marble tops and picked up her keys.

Darcy’s p.o.v

The school was a long brown building that looked like it was made in the 1950’s. Tall glass windows let the suns light into the first, second and third mathematics floors. Even though the school was old it certainly didn’t look it. It was like an old lady that’s 60 and she uses the most powerful anti-ageing cream in the world so it makes her look fifteen.

As for the students, there were the typical American high school students. They would be squashed in groups of three or four on every corner you’d turn or slouching against the rows of lockers that filled the corridors.

I walked up to the large iron gates that were always open to let the students pass through. I was a freshman. Totally new school, totally new environment and most importantly hot senior boys. They were everywhere.

I waved eagerly at Grace who gave a large beaming smile back. It was so good to see her, even though we did meet for a coffee only last Saturday. She had pulled her red locks into a high pony, and had applied a thick layer of mascara onto her eyelashes that made her green eyes look massive.

‘ You ready?’ she asked me glancing up at the massive high school. I shook my head in reply. She gave my arm a quick squeeze

‘So are you going the cheerleading team?’ She asked me linking her thin arm around mine.

‘Yeah, I think so. Doubt they’ll let me join though,’ I replied as we joined in the crowds of people edging towards the front gate.

She looked at me like I was some crazy person. ‘ You will join the team Darcy Meyer.’

Remember how I told you about all the different groups well take a look at these.

The geeks, either leaning on the wall with computers in there hands or in the library reading a book with the title All American Civil Wars.

The druggies. They would stand at the side of the basketball court and smoke away like they don’t care.

The sporting guys and not to mention the girls (including Brooke and her gang.) They’d stand in their sport uniforms chatting about the upcoming game or how they’re going to beat everyone at nationals.

Then we have the hot guys. Normally surrounded by a massive group of girls (I mean, who wouldn’t fancy them) and the geek school journalists trying to come up with a completely fake story about one of the guys cheating on his girlfriend. Yes, you heard me. Girlfriends.

Grace and I walked past them taking in our new surroundings.

‘Guess high schools not as bad as it seems.’ Grace said totally checking out one of the guys.
