How could your best friend in the whole wide world, also be the love of your life? How could they be the person that makes your heart stop beating for a second every time they look into your eyes?

"All our young lives we search for someone to love, someone who makes us complete. We choose partners and change partners. We dance to a song of heartbreak and hope, all the while wondering if somewhere and somehow there is someone searching for us." -The Wonder Years

3. Populars

"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."

"So, what made you move to this school?"

A girl with a short, bobbed hair, peered down at me. She reminded me of Mrs Chalk, which wasn't a compliment. She had dark, grey eyes and was pouting with her lips. She had two girls stood behind her, looking like a spitting image of her stuck up look. They had different appearances though. One girl had long, faded red hair, and was very small which made her look quite porky. The other girl was average height, and had long dark black hair that was beautiful. She had light blue eyes, that i would have killed to have. She stood there, quietly. I almost didn't notice her. She didn't belong in that stuck up group. She didn't fit the part, as some would say. When i looked back at the main girl she was still peering down at me. She spoke to me with so much hatred in her voice, it almost scared me.

"Multiple of reasons" i smiled. She glared at me, then looked at Josh with an adoring gaze.

"Well, just to let you know. I'm head of this school, and everyone knows it, so don't think you can just walk on in here and expect things to change. Got it?" She smirked a little and I snorted. Her eyes widened.

"Lena, leave her alone, alright? It's her first day, she doesn't need you scaring her" Josh said in a fed up tone. To me this seemed as an insult, saying she was scary. But she took it as a compliment. She smiled sickly at him and replied.

"Josh, i'm just telling her the facts. She needs to know." She took her eyes off Josh and glared at me again.

"Are you kidding me? Sweetheart, were 15 year's old, not 5. Grow up."

I smiled at her like i had been for the past five minutes, and her face lit with rage. She stood though a few moments. I assumed she was trying to think of a good comeback, but none came to mind. She just huffed and strutted away with her followers behind her. I looked back at Josh, for the first time since they had arrived and he his mouth was hanging open.

"What?" i asked and popped another chip into my mouth.

"Do you even know who she is?" Josh was leaning on the table, still staring at me.

"That's Lena Hannoway. The most popular girl in school. No one ever dares to speak to her like that, especially a new girl, wow Maci."

"So she thinks she owns the school?" Josh had started to calm down a bit now, and was back to his usual self.

"Yup. Her and her disciple's." he nodded in the direction they just walked.

"What are they called?"

"The red headed one is called Fiona and the scary one is called Delliah."

"She wasn't scary, i thought she was the prettiest one out of them."

"Yeah, she's not as bad as the other two, she's just" he paused "weird."

"Have them three always been friends?"

"As far as we know."

I nodded and finished the last of my chips. Before i could ask any more questions the bell rang for next period. "

"Come on, don't wanna be late on your first day." Josh grabbed his coat and winked at me. We walked out of the canteen laughing like we had known each other all our lives.

"Maci, this is Shaun" Josh looked at the boy stood smiling in front of me.

"Hi" I said in a shy voice but smiled at him.

He said the same thing and smiled. I didn't know why I had to be shy. He looked like the nicest guy you could ever meet. He had wavy blonde hair that he kept on flicking to the side, and messing around with it. He had a little pout on his lips when he wasn't smiling. Even though he had the school uniform on and the same as everyone else, he seemed to make it look more stylish.

It was already nearly the end of the school week. I was half relived and half sad. All week I had spent every day with Josh. We would meet before school, he would take me to most of my lessons as I still didn't know where they were, he would meet me for lunch and break. At first I thought he was just doing it to be polite, but after a couple of days I could tell he was a true friend. It was slightly awkward standing with Josh and Shaun at the entrance to the gate. But Josh was the first to break the silence.

"Shaun's been on holiday that's why he hasn't been here all week."

I nodded at Josh, who'd answered a question I hadn't even asked. The bell finally rang and Shaun said he had to go do 'something.' I secretly think he just didn't want to walk with us.

"Is there anything you want to ask me then?" Josh asked me whilst we walked to class, he had a little smile dancing on his lips.

"What do you mean?"

"About Shaun?" I hesitated, trying to think of something obvious to ask.

"Er.. are you two best mates?" It was the only question that came to mind, Josh laughed a little.

"Yeah, but don't tell him that" he paused. "anything else?" He raised his eyebrow slightly and I shook my head. "He's gay Maci."

I think my reaction was easily readable as Josh started laughing again.

"Oh yeah. You didn't think he looked it?"

"No way, I just thought he was a bit on the feminine side" he laughed again.

"Believe me, you'll see once you get to know him" I just nodded in silence. "Aw, your cute." He grinned and tugged at my hair.

"Don't patronize me Joshua" I raised my eyebrows. "Okay then, can I ask you something?"

"Sure." Josh smiled at me whilst holding the door open.

"If you two are best mates, and I haven't seen you hanging with any other guys. Are you two.. Like, gay with each other?"

I bit my lip wondering if Josh was, now that would be a real shock. Josh broke into a roar of laughter, and pretended to wipe tears away.

"Wait till I tell Shaun about this!"

"So your not?"

"Ha, nah, ladies all the way" He did one of his famous winks and smirked at me. "Why? You panicking then because you wouldn't have a chance?" I laughed.

"Don't get ahead of yourself."

"Whatever." He smirked again. We had arrived at my class by now. "Laters!" Josh called from down the hall with a single wave of his hand. I couldn't help but smile at him.
