The Very Edge

Faye Rochals. She was a kid treated like an outsider. She was a bullied student at Dellmore High for Girls. By the time she gets into year 9, she thought she was normal. Finally the teen she hoped she'd become. But now she's on a bridge. Not an important place but right at the minute, it means everything.

7. The Edge

They wanted me dead. All of them. They’re  tearing out my soul! The worst thing I could do was give her satisfaction. No. I couldn't do this.

She loosened her grip on the metal slab and stepped back onto a firmer looking pavement. The wind relaxed and a deafening silence rose. Cars still rushed by like wild cats hunting but they were muted, leaving her sick to the stomach. That's when she stumbled. Her feet tripped over each other and her heart was an air raid siren.

It took, what felt like, an eternity. The sound slowly amplified and my screams made no sound. Eventually, she closed my eyes and let her numb body part into the ice-cold water. That’s where Faye is now. And will be forever. In a dirty, freezing river without anybody to know. Maybe she was a ghost or she wasn't meant to be there. Maybe she just wasn't seen.
