  “I dare you.”

Craig smirked, hands on his hips, giving me a private smug smile.  He was blackmailing me – if he didn’t do it, the secret would be out.

I trembled, staring at the towering, abandoned house. Some of the bricks had crumbled off the wall and almost every window had smashed. A jungle of weeds grew untamed on the grass, suffocating the plants underneath; the tall gates trapped the house, preventing the dangers from escaping. There had been rumours... rumours of strange happenings.

“We will.” I said, sounding a lot braver than I actually was.

Tyler stammered, nervously, “But Seth, there have been rumours…”

  “I don’t care, I’m not a wimp. I will go myself.” I insisted.

“Don’t be stupid, I’m coming.” Tyler said, loyally.

The ancient gates opened slowly, creaking, as if it hadn’t opened in years. We walked cautiously on the cracked path guiding us into the house.

“Don’t worry, we’ll be fine.” I mumbled even though we both didn’t believe me. I focused on walking straight. I slowly turned the rusty handle, my heart pounding against his ribs. Slowly, the door opened and we walked, engulfed by the darkness. The huge door slammed shut behind us, making us jump. The huge hall was completely jet black, a strong musty scent drifted around us. We could only hear our unsteady breathing and our hearts thudding.  All we had to do was count to sixty and then leave. We could do that. I squeezed my eyes shut.

“Okay.” I muttered, “One…two…three…four…five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve thirteen...”

A thunderous crash came erupting from the ground and we were thrown backwards.

  "RUN!" I screamed.
