Premonitor

"I thought so."

There was a pause in which I started to walk a bit faster.

"You're a Premonitor."

I simply looked at him.

4. Nathaniel

I stared up at the familiar old Victorian house. It seemed to be exactly the same. I was pleased to see something I recognised. After my brief trip to Tennessee, which wasn't very enjoyable, this was a relief.

Ashley went straight to the front doorstep, and took the key from under the eaves, as if he lived there. What cheek!

“Oi!” I shouted. He looked round, smirking. “What do you think you're doing? This is my house! You're trespassing!”

“Oh, well. He is technically, a policeman.” It was the man, whose name I didn't know. I raised my eyebrows. “I'm Nathaniel, by the way. You must be Jaz.”

He stuck out his hand for me to shake. I reluctantly shook it.

“How come Ashley isn't in uniform? And what's a Pre- whatever it was?”

He looked fascinated. “A Premonitor? Wow.”

He shoved his hands into his pockets and strolled into the house in much the same way as Ashley. I wasn't having any of that.

“Na-” I sighed in defeat and walked in after him.

Ashley wasn't in the kitchen. Nor was he in the lounge. I rolled my eyes.

   “Ashley?”

I snapped my head around. There was nothing there. Strange...

“Meds. Meds.” I muttered distractedly to myself. I saw the bottle on the side, and I picked it up. Gasping, I saw a sort of... vision. A vision of me, opening the bottle, tipping it upside down and finding it.... I repeated what I saw myself doing.

   And finding it empty.

Sprinting upstairs, I found Ashley rooting around in my room.

“Do you mind?” Then I remembered what Nathaniel had said about him being a policeman. “Can I see some I.D., please?”

He reached into the top pocket of his black shirt, and produced a circular card, which he handed to me.

   It read:

Police Patroller (PP) Ashley Smith (Telepathic)

Jurisdiction of Britain and Atlantis

   I laughed out loud. “Atlantis?”

   Ashley looked at me oddly.

“What? There's no such place. It's a myth... Surely?”
