The Midnight Stallion

A mysterious black stallion gallops through the land every night at midnight. But he is not an average horse. There is something special about him. He cannot be tamed but he hides a secret. Something special about him that no one knows. No one has tried to befriend him. Until now.

3. Assignment

The next morning is a school day. I normally look forward to school but not today. All I can think about is the midnight stallion. Is he real? Will I ever see him? Will I be the one who can befriend him? I'm suddenly jolted back to reality by my friend giving me a sharp elbow in the ribs and my name being called out by our form teacher, Miss Robinson. I hear snickering behind me. I want to turn round and yell at them to ;Shut up!" but I can't.
"Laura," said Miss Robinson a third time.
"Here." I reply. I feel empty inside.I don't want to be here. I want to be at home. Waiting, watching out for him. At break my friends are all busy gossiping as usual. Boys, the latest fashions, music, the same thing all the time. Normally I would join in but not this time. I was miles away. Then something Amy says suddenly grabs my attention. "A research assignment? For English? That's unusual." The others laugh in agreement. I feel frustrated. "What is it? What do we have to do?"I blurted out. Amy gives me a glance and grins, "Mr Byron says we will find out in our next class. Luckily, that's directly after break. I am willing break to end now so that I can find out what this assignment is. Hopefully it will distract me for now.

In English everyone is muttering and whispering. No one knows what the assignment is. Everyone wants to find out. Mr. Byron comes into the room and the class falls silent. "Right class, as you know I have an assignment for you. I trust you all excited to know what it will be." The class have begun cheering. Mr. Byron raises his hand for silence. I have some sheets for you to give you some guidance on your assignment. He picks up some papers and hands them around. I read the title with confusion, "Myths and Legends". Mr.Byron has returned to the front of the classroom. "Yes, I want you all to do some research on a myth or legend. It can be local or international. It's up to you. I want you all to write a report and design a presentation for the class in two weeks time. You can do the presentation any way you want. You can dress up, use props or simply make a PowerPoint."

I smile to myself. I know what I'm going to do. Something that will make me more determined to find him. My project will be on the Midnight Stallion.
