Jess Not Carrie

Jessica Evans has an image of what she wants her life to be like- normal, fun, interesting, funny. She wants to be cool girl Jess with an epic social life. Unfortunately for her, what she DOES have is an embarassing family, a mahooosive crush on her best friend's brother, a dog that thinks its a cat, and the nickname of Carrie The Carrot (for having long ginger hair).
Ah,well. That doesn't mean her life is boring:)x

This is my first Movella so I would really appreciate some feedback.
Hope you like this!x

7. Ambushed By A Popular

Friday 17th September

I have never been so glad to see a weekend. No, seriously.  I've had more drama this week than I have on any other, probably. And it's only a few weeks since term began. Good grief.

I probably should've guessed that it would happen but I didn't.

It's a shame. The day had started off so well. Katie had raced over to my house early this morning, whilst I was just packing my school bag and trying to fix the way I looked with a little make-up and the help of some curling tongs. I know some people are against make up and think it's just vanity, but I have wispy fine, straight hair that never ceases to annoy me, and eyes that are sort of blue but also a bit grey. Then there is the fact that I am very tall and skinny in a jutting-out-hips-sort of way and very very pale.

So I say, If you've got it, flaunt it. But if you haven't, put some slap on for goodness sake!

Well, that's what some random girl's Facebook status was, so i can't really take the credit, but i totally agree with her.

Anyway, Katie came over. Honestly, I'd been ignoring her texts from last night. I felt sort of stung, which was weird, because I wasn't usually this sensitive over little things.

"Seriously Jess, why didn't you pick up your bloody phone?!" Katie moaned. "I wanted to tell you.. Luke asked for your number last night!"

I spun around so quickly that I slipped and face-planted the floor.

"He..he asked for?!..what?" I puzzled, calmbering up.  Katie giggled.

"Well, he asked for all our numbers;mine, Holly's, Isobel's, and yours. Of course. If only you hadn't rushed off..!!"

"Well he was going anyway..." I mumbled. Her eyes were all sparkling and fiery when I said that.

"You like him."

"Correction. I dont even know him. Well, one conversation desn't count."

"It's going somewhere. He seemed pretty happy to talk to you. And he didnt laugh at the whole 'Carrie' thing. Personally, i think Jake's totally overkilled that joke."

"Hmm. Hope so."

When we arrived at school, I felt like I was on a high. It lasted all of about 5 minutes, because by that time I had reached my locker. Tallia's friend Molly Smith was leaning against it, curling a lock of glossy dark ringlets around her finger. She wasn't on her own either. Tallia and a couple of her other friends were about three metres away, rooting around in their lockers and casting me and Katie sneaky looks.

"Hey, Katie!" Molly smiled, looking right past me even though she was right in my way.

"Hi," Katie replied confusedly, frowning as she took in the scene. "You alright?"

"Yeah, I'm good thanks."

It was impossible to scoot around her.

"Urm, 'scuse me, your blocking my locker." I said nervously.

She ignored me, opening her mouth again to talk to Katie.

"Molly, i think your blocking her locker." Katie said helpfully.

Molly looked at me for a second, and stepped forward. Geez, I was nervous. Why was she there?!

"Sorry," she said to me coolly. "Can I talk to you on your own for a second?"

Oh, crikey. I shot a panicked look at Katie, who's eyebrows were high up her forehead, then shrugged.

"Yeah," I croaked. We walked further out into the other side of the corridor. It was far away enough that we weren't in ear shot unless we shouted, but you could still have a very good view of us talking.

"Why were you flirting with Matt yesterday?"

Oh my. I wasn't sure I was going to survive this conversation.

"I wasn't."

"Yeah, you were!" she laughed, like this was a friendly interrogation. "We all saw you."

"I didn't even talk to him-"

"Yes you did. When you were asking about how long we'd been watching you dance-"

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Crap.

"- and when you said bye, and before you spoke to Luke-"

"Actually no, he talked to Katie, I just talked to Luke instead."

"Your such a liar,"Molly smirked. "He's got a girlfriend. Both of them do-Matt and Luke. So there's no need to be slutty. And we told them allllllll about you. So just stay away from them okay?!"

I just looked at her and shrugged a bit and nodded too. She was like a head smaller than me and still she was scary. She flounced back to Tallia and her crew, and they all gave me withering glances. I hurried quickly to my locker, put in my coat and grabbed a handful of schoolbooks.

"Jess?"said Katie worriedly. "What was that all about? Are you alright?"

I felt numb. And a bit like crying. I didn't dare look at Tallia or Molly.

"Hmm. yeah. it was nothing.I'm good." She clearly didn't believe me.

I didn't know what else to say, so I hid my face with a curtain of hair and escaped to the classroom.

I was so sooo embarassed. I spent the rest of the day trying to escape, erm, certain people. Nobody really knew why I was so quiet, so I just fed them a lie about it being my time of the month. All the girls bought the lie except for Katie, who just stared at me. I was very glad that Matt wasn't at school today. Katie mentioned something about a school museum trip. Jake kept a wary distance from me too. He didn't even make any Carrie quips.

What had Tallia and Molly told them all?!!
