Portal to another world

Hearing Dr. V explain all these things to Ruby reminded Jaden of his own transformation. It was less than four months ago.

It was a cold winter morning and Jaden, known as Jack then, was walking to school. He felt like he was being followed but there was no one around - that he could see at least. Jaden heard a rustle in the closest tree; he turned round to look. When Jaden turned around he was hit by a large rock on the back of his head; he was knocked unconscious. Dr. Vanci leaped out of the tree he was hiding in and landed neatly next to Jaden's still body. He picked up the young boy and ran with him to his 'house'. When Jaden awoke Dr Vanci explained everything to him; though he missed out one big detail. He turned Jaden because he was his biological son, and turning him was the only way to keep him safe. Though he had promised himself he would never tell Jaden this truth.

When Ruby started to cry Jaden felt bad and he hated himself for changing this poor girl's life. Until now he had avoided looking at this girl because he didn't want to see the hurt and confusion on her face. Hearing her name made him finally look at her to confirm: he had turned his old best friend into a vampire. How could he forgive himself now?

Ruby started speaking in a panicky voice, "My throat... It feels... like it's on fire. Help me! What's going on?"

Jaden laughed at the absurdity of the situation, he had his best friend back, but Ruby didn't look so happy. She obviously didn't recognise him, and even if she did, why would she want to be his friend again?

"Ruby sweetie..." Jaden started to say and blushed. He couldn't call her that now. She probably doesn't want to speak to me, I just ruined her life, thought Jaden. He started again, "Ruby, you're thirsty."
