Megan is part of The Pack. Not just a pack, The Pack. The Pack are the most feared werewolf pack around. They have the best hunters, protectors and alpha in the world but if you slip up, even a tiny bit, you are out.

The Pack have the nicest territory, the best meat and the most dangerous werewolfs around and they've never been challenged for their title, not until now.

What Megan didn't realise was how close to home the threat would come from...

8. "Surprise!"

Training the next day was dragging by. By half nine it felt like we'd been training for hours, not one and a half!
We were working on speed that morning. Doing drills and races, being organised into groups according to speed, that kind of thing. I was in Alpha's group again. This time with Jane and Bruce and we were racing each other. It was simple for me because I was the fastest wolf in the pack. Therefore I won every race. So I ended up having to sit out and watch Bruce and Jane race. Which was not fun.

"Alpha please can I take part in one more race?", I pleaded, "how am I supposed to learn anything by watching?"
"Megan you-"
"Can't learn anything from sitting out but that makes sense because Alpha will want to be the one who kills me when the time comes for battle." Ebony finished for Alpha, strutting into the clearing.
Everybody turned around slowly. Not really wanting to see if Ebony was actually there.
"Surprise!", Ebony called, "Weren't expecting to see me, were you?"
I looked around at everybody else who looked just as shocked as I felt.
"Well I was surprised myself Megan, when you didn't figure it out."
I tried to muster the biggest voice I could. I wanted to seem as confident as possible.
"Figure what out?", I was surprised by how confident my voice sounded.
Ebony also momentarily seemed slightly taken aback by how confident I sounded.
"That I already had my pack here with me when we met!" Ebony exclaimed.
"What?", Alpha practically squeaked. Sounding more helpless and defeated than I had ever heard him.
"Haha! Didn't you see Zora when she almost walked out from behind the trees? I had to signal to her to stay where she was so she wouldn't come out and rip your head off.I guess you were too busy trying to figure out when to run. At that point I had to just let you go so my whole plan to ambush you all earlier than you expected wouldn't be ruined! I guess it still worked though!"
"Well it obviously didn't work then cause I don't see the rest of your pack anywhere!" I was suddenly confident I could end Ebony here and now.
"That's where you're wrong! Ebony shouted, " Zandis, why don't you come forward and show The Pack what you're made of?" Ebony was now talking to someone or some people we couldn't see.

As The Zandis walked from the trees the whole of my pack gasped in unison. The Zandis were as big as buffalos and as tall as horses. Every wolves' rough, dense looking coat was a cloudy grey with the exception of a wolf with a big, bright chestnut coloured coat. I assumed that wolf was Ebony's new mate. All the wolves had Ebony's piercing yellow eyes that were full of menace and evil. They were all looking straight at me. They all wanted to kill me.
"Megan, meet your step-siblings." Ebony looked like this was the most enjoyable thing on earth.
"My step siblings?" I breathed.
"Zora and I's family." Ebony said proudly, looking at Zora.
"But no one can ever make me forget the huge hole you left in my heart when you killed the love of my life,Rose." Ebony now looked like he seriously wanted to kill me.
I had already counted the number of wolves in The Zandis. Nine. We were evenly matched. That meant I had to fight Ebony all by myself. Snap.
"Ebony, I mean Dad-" I started.
"Don't ever call me that again!" Ebony roared.
"Sorry! Ebony......I didn't-" I was interrupted again.
"That's it!", Ebony bellowed, "Zandis. Kill!"

All of a sudden The Zandis all sprinted forward. Led by Ebony who was running straight for me. I knew it was now or never. If I didn't fight Ebony and win I would die. The rest of The Pack would die. I couldn't let that happen. I gathered all the courage I ever had and sprinted straight toward Ebony. There was not a lot of ground between us so it only took seconds until the battle began.
