As the city prepares the revolution, Gerard is torn between choosing to fight alongside his best friend or leave with the girl he just met.

12. Meeting: Gerard

Ramin woke me. It was still dark but we were heading north and that was a long trek. Ramin didn't want to cause suspicion, however the guards were probably already after us. I enter to go and say goodbye to Lily but I knew we had to keep going. If we were caught we would be dead for sure.
Ramin suddenly stopped. "Shh!"
"What is it?" I whispered. Then I could hear it. Russeling as if someone was following us. The leaves crushing under their feet. We hid behind a tree but kept looking to see who it was. Then we saw them three figures emerging from the darkness. Gaurds for sure. We were going to die. I knew it. It all ended here.
The figures grew closer then their faces were visible and I calmed down. It was Lily. She was with another girl. A beautiful girl. Her hair was perfect as was her face. She seemed close to a man with her. Her father I think, although I saw no resemblance.
"Gerard!" Lily could hardly contain her happiness. "What are you doing here? I'm so glad to see you!"
"I could ask you the same thing." I replied.
"Who are these people, Gerard?" Ramin looked confused. He had never met Lily in the woods.
"This is Lily and," I didn't know the others.
"This is Sierra and her father" Lily continued. "We are fleeing the Central. And you?"
"Running." I said trying to sound unafraid of what we were doing.
"We didn't attend the gathering yesterday so we could get a head start." Ramin paused. "Where are you heading?"
"North," Sierra spoke. She sounded as beautiful as she looked.
"Shall we keep walking?" Lily suggested.
Ramin nodded and we all kept walking.
She was beautiful. Really beautiful. Is it possible to fall in love this fast?
