34. Worst Time To Make Friends

Despite my uncle's words, people did panic. Shore people were swimming around, crashing into each other, screaming. I swam above the crowd. I loved the high ceilings. Abitha took my shoulders. "Pearl! Pearl!" she cried. Abitha was panicking. It was clear that she didn't know what to do.

She flicked her hands, and my dress disappeared and was replaced by battle armor. Chain connected the metal breast plate and arm sockets. Chain link was molded into the shape of my tail, so it would move when I swam. It covered my head, so only my face was showing. "Neat." Jade appeared in my hand, and the pack with arrows on m back.

Abitha nodded, then flicked her hand again and she too was in battle armor. She had a hemet. "I'll be in the open field. You'll be on the inner wall, the most safest position, but one of the most important." She said quickly. "Think you'll be okay?"

I nodded reluctantly. "Hey, you! Yes, you there with the blue tail! Come here!" Abitha called to a soldier trying to get everyone out. He swam over. "Get the princess to battle station three!" Abitha ordered the Shore.

"Yes miss." He said to Abitha. Then to me, " Come, your highness." I sped after him.

We swam up a tower, then went through a doorway. There, I saw a wall that stretched to another tower. Other Shore people were lining up. I took an empty spot. The soldier with the blue tail disappeared.

"I'm sorry, I'm new to this," I told a Shore standing next to me, " but what am I supossed to do?"

"Shoot at the enemy. Keep shooting." the Shore said shortly. "Oh yeah, and don't get hit."

"Oh." I akin ledges," how will I know who to shoot?"

"Here's a clue," the Shore faced me, " the enemy looks stupid. You must know what stupid looks like. You see stupid every time you look in the mirror!" Then realization spread across her face. She couldn't be older than sixteen.

"Oh. My. Shells." Her jaw dropped. "Did I just insult you? Did I just insult the princess?" she said in disbelief. She turned to the auburn-tailed Shore next to her. "Ciara, trade places with me!"

"Why?" the Shore named Ciara asked in a squeaky voice.

The rude Shore just pushed her and went into her place. Ciara sighed and turned to me. "You have to forgive her, your Magesty. Aideen walks over everyone."

"That's okay," I blew my hair from my face, " I have bigger problems. We all do."

"Yes," Ciara sighed again. "BTW, the Shores are white armor. Kior's army's is black."

"Thanks." I said. I felt very sad inside, because I just made a new friend. But we might die in the next few minutes. "I-I hope you don't get killed." I blurted.

Ciara half cried half laughed, "Yeah. You too."
