19. Secret Convorsations

I awoke in my own room, with white curtains blowing in the water currents. My
eyes drifted over to my night table. When they saw what was there, I gasped in
shock. It was the arrows and bow. I felt as if I should had remembered something, something very important that had to do with the bow and arrows. I shook my head. No, there was nothing. I just fainted in the weapon room because of the heat. Yes, that was it.

I fell back into my pillow, realizing that I should probally go and find Abitha to tell her that I was okay. I got out of bed and went into the hallway, changing into my mer form.

Swimming down the hallway on the way to Abitha's room, I past the throne room. I disided to duck in and check on my uncle. I was surpirised to see Abitha and Gwolff there. I left the great wooden doors slightly ajar. I had bees in this castle long enough to know that conversations were more interesting without me participating in them.

The throne room was pretty big, but thankfully sound travels better in the water so I could hear every word they were saying.

"I did the forgetting spell on her, " Abitha was telling my uncle, "she doesn't remember anything since she touched the bow."

"What story did you place her with?" The King said.

"That she fainted from the heat."
"Your majesty," Gwolf said, "do you think this was the most wisest disition? She will only grow curious, and curiousity killed the cat, or in this case, let it out of the bag."

"Oh, Gwolff, my faithful friend, " my uncle sighed, "the poor girl has been through enough already. Maybe she should figure this out on her own."

"But, your Magesty, why all of these secrets? Why can't we just come out and tell her?" Abitha sounded very concerend.

The king sighed again. "Do you remember Pearl's mother? Always sweet, always kind. When Mairin found out about the magic, that's all she thought about. She studied The Evil Lord, and found his secrets. She was obsessed. Mairin wasted her childhood away, and the day she became an adult, she set out. You both know the rest of the story," Uncle's eyes misted up, "I don't want that to happen to Pearl. We shall let her have a fun childhood here in the castle, and when the time comes, when she becomes a costumed to these things, we shall tell her."

Gwolff nodded, "I respect your desitions, sir. Please exuse me. I should be attending to certain things." He swam toward the door.

I opened it, and walked in, pretendeding not to have heard a thing. My Uncle's tail swished, like it does when he knows something that you weren't telling him. This time, he didn't call me out on it. "Pearl, I see that you are better." he said warmly.

"Yes, thank you." I said. I followed Abitha out the door.
