3. My Future is a bit "Misty"

Heads quickly turned to Stacie and I. Gasps filled the room. I looked down at my clothes. They were smoking!

I didn’t feel a thing. It wasn’t fire, just smoke that was almost like mists of clouds. The smoke drifted off of me in wisps, filling the room and eventually setting off the fire alarm. BEEP, BEEP BEEP! It sounded. The class ran out of the classroom, completely freaking out. I saw other kids from the other classes go by the doorway, looking confused. While all of this happened, I felt…calm, almost at peace.

I stayed in the class until the smoke stopped. It didn’t take a long time. After it cleared, my clothes were let unharmed. But they were dry! Instead of the smokey smell, the sent of morning dew filled the room. Weird.

I followed the whole school outside, ignoring all of the fingers pointed and whispers running across the students’ mouths.

I didn’t retreat back into the school with everyone else. Yes, I was interested to hear what the school would use as a cover story for the weird smoke. But I couldn’t explain it either, so to avoid that, I ran home.

The sound of the door slamming caught the attention of my father. He looked at me, leaning against the wall, dazed. “Well, you are home early.”

“Yeah,” I said, “there was a fire at school. They let everyone go home early.”

“A fire at the school? Was much lost?”

“No. Just a little fire. They were able to put it out before any damage was done.”

“Good,” dad said. And with that, he left the room.
