12. ...And Uncle Needs Singing Lessons--Add to Birhday Present List

Why? Why? Why why why why why me? Why couldn’t someone else be princess? Like Abitha. She would be a good ruler.

I ran to my room crying. I didnt even realize that my tail turned back to legs when I rushed into my room. Why couldn’t I be normal? After sobbing on by bed for over an hour, there came a soft knock on the door. “ Go away,” I sniffled.

Abitha came in anyway. “Hey, I thought you might want to start your training now,” she said. I knew that she was just trying to cheer me up, but I wasn't in he mood.

“ Go away,” I repeated.

“ I just wanted-“ I cut her off.

“What don’t you understand about the words ‘Go away’?’ I snapped, “ That’s just it. You don’t understand a thing. How would you like to spend your life alone and then all of a sudden, BAM! Youre a princess?” I said.

“ If that is your wish your majesty.” Abitha said quietly. She turned to the door.

“Oh, don't 'your majesty,' me, Abitha!" I yelled at her. I knew I shouldn't have, but I blamed her.

“Y’ know, Pearl, you don’t have to do this.” Abitha said with a sad look eched on her face.

“I don’t?”

“Of corse not. If you don’t, we will all just disappear from the face of the world. Without magic, Shores can't survive. If that is what you want, I sugest you don’t do it.” Then she changed into her mer form and then went out the door.

I sat up and thought. Was this what I was meant to do? Was it me? Then, something clicked into place. The smoking at school that last day. That was me. I did that. I dryed myself with magic. The King. He was sickly. When I came into the room, he was all better. He said that I was "Flowing with magic"! It was me. It had always been me.

There was another knock on the door a little while later. “What do you want, Abitha?” I shouted to the door. The door opened, but it was not Abitha that was standing there. It was the King. “ Oh, I ‘m sorry, My Dear king, I thought you were someone else.” I said as I bowed.

“ Oh, please, my dear niece, I get enough of that from my subjects.” The King waved.

"I'm your niece?" I asked. I guess it sort of made sence. He was a king, I was a princess.
"Yes, very close family at that." He said.

“Is there anything I can do for you?” I asked.

“ Well, I came up here to talk to you. Abitha told me that you were talking it hard. She worries about you, Pearl. At first, she was assined to help you, but in her training, it seemed to be hard for her. Then she put up with it for you, Pearl. If she didn’t guide you, you wouldn’t be here right now.” My uncle said.

“ Wow,” I realized how much Abitha cares about me. But why?

“ Pearl, Abitha is to trian you before you go on your quest. She is to teach you how to do magic, use a sord, and to teach you the ways of the Shores.” The King told me.

“Uncle, how are you related to me?” I wondered. Dad never told me about any of my family.

" I was your Mother’s brother.” He anwered me. Something flickered in his clear green eyes. Memories.

“ My Mother?” I never really thought about it until now. I never knew my mother.

“Yes child, your Mother.” The king said. He began to sing a tune.

"Hope will fly, dreams will dance, if only you give them a second chance,
Love will fill, life will blossom, if only you beileve they can.
So when the dark seeps in,
And things are destroyed,
Hope will fly, dreams will dance, if only you give them a second chance."
