Don't change

I was tired of being the geek, the loner, the fat one. I wanted more than one friend. I wanted to be popular, pretty, sexy. So I got a makeover..

26. Watching her

On Saturday evening I sat in my room, bored out of my mind. I had played guitar until my fingers hurt, there was nothing on, and Max and Jasper's phones had died. Normally, if this happened, I would go and see Maya, but now she was blanking me and was going out with Dan. Seeing her would bring back the pain...
The blue rooms seemed to scream with boredom, and my new clock's dragged every second along. One more second gone. One more second wasted sitting in my room. I looked out my window, and I saw a girl. Taking a closer look, I saw it was Maya.
She was wearing a loose top with an American flag on, and some skinny jeans that made her legs look long, and emphasised how toned they were. Her face was made up and her hair curled, but her expression was what made me look closer. Her brow was knitted, and her eyes showed something unreadable, a bit like fear or something. What could have caused that? I pondered, still watching her, as she went inside and locked the door. Where had her lovely smile gone? I should go round and ask her.
Then the pain came back, it hit me like a hurricane. She wouldn't listen, she wouldn't even care probably. This Maya wasn't my Maya, it was a popular one, who got detentions, who went out with Dan.
Dan! I remembered the conversation he had had with Jordan, and the bet. In one week she was already dating him, leaving 5 for him to convince her to have sex. Probably less than that, then he could break her heart and spread rumours. I had to warn her!
I looked at my (new) clock, and saw that it was probably too late to go round, and anyway, I didn't think I could face it. Tomorrow I would go, tomorrow I could try and save her.
Reluctantly I went back to my guitar, and played more music, trying to drown out my sorrow and worry in the music

It didn't work.
