The Revelations of Meg Scott-Reese

Needs editing! The Lollipop Brigade. That's what Meg nicknames the gang of popular girls at her high school. They've made Meg's life hell and stopped her from having any friends. That's until Damien appears. But what if there is more to the Lollipop Brigade than meets the eye?

7. Chapter Seven

“Meg?” Aaron’s voice drifted up the stairs.

I glanced at the clock on my wall out of the corner of my eye and blinked in surprise when I saw the time.

Pausing the game I stood up and quickly stretched before running out to the hallway and peering over the banister. I could see Aaron below, looking up at me.

“Do you and your friend want anything to drink or eat?” He asked.

I turned around and asked Damien if he wanted anything.

“Can I have a drink?” He said, stretching his sore hands.

I told Aaron that we would be down in a few minutes and smiled at Damien. “Perhaps we should call it a day?”

He seemed relieved at my suggestion. “I wasn’t sure how much longer I would last.” He admitted. “My hands have actually gone numb from my ferocious button pressing.”

After a visit to the bathroom we were on our way downstairs.

“Shall we continue our quest to find the crystals another day soon?” Damien asked in a voice eerily like that of Felix, one of the main characters in Crystal Kingdom.

      I laughed. “Most definitely,”

Playing Crystal Kingdom with Damien was way more fun than playing it by alone, even though we had both completed several games each, it was interesting to compare all the different discoveries we had made.

When we walked into the kitchen Aaron was sat at the breakfast bar working on his laptop, and there was food cooking in the oven which made my stomach rumble despite the gigantic sundae Damien and I had shared earlier.

Aaron looked up when we entered and smiled.

I also thought that he looked surprised, and guessed that Aaron must have thought that my guest was a girl, although surely he would have been able to tell from Damien’s shoes and bag that my guest was a boy? Or maybe Aaron was just so shocked that I even had a guest or friend, whatever, in the house that his shock was reinforced by seeing the guest/friend. You’re probably thinking why would he be that shocked? Well... the last friend I had over was Nick (or Nipple Nick as he is more commonly known), and that has got to be nearly a year ago now, give or take a few months. Wow, has it really been that long? It’s not surprising that Aaron’s so shocked then, I am too! I do ramble on, don’t I?

I introduced Aaron and Damien and made Damien and myself a drink. We then sat down in the living room and watched TV for a bit.

I have to say that after a while I was getting a bit sick of seeing the screen, and that my eyes were starting to hurt. I said this to Damien and he laughed.

Realising how late it was, Damien said that he had better get home as him mum usually cooked tea for six o’clock.

“You’re welcome to stay for dinner anytime you want, Damien.” Aaron called from the kitchen as I stood in the hallway waiting for Damien to put his shoes on. “It was good to meet you.”

“Thanks,” Damien replied, putting on his bag. “It was good to meet you too.” Turning to me he smiled. “I had a good time, thanks Meg.”

I smiled back. “Yeah, it was good; I enjoyed myself.” Apart from the milkshake on t-shirt incident of course, though I didn’t say this aloud.

“You’ll have to come over to mine next time.”

I opened the door and waved bye to him as he walked over the road. “I would like that. See you tomorrow.”

Aaron was grinning when I walked back into the kitchen.

“What?” I asked pausing in the doorway.

He turned his attention to his laptop and took a sip from his mug of tea. “He seems nice. So he lives across the road then?”

“Yep, at The Orchard. He’s in my form class.”

Claire arrived back home and I made an excuse about having some homework to do, to avoid being in the room when Aaron would tell Claire about Damien. I could hear Aaron informing her about my new friend as I walked upstairs and couldn’t help but smile.

Thursday and Friday passed quickly, with only four interesting things happening.

Number one, the replacement for Nurse Martin arrived, a Nurse Rushton, who I haven’t met yet, but is supposed to be really mean.

Number two, Damien got a call from the toy shop organising an interview for Saturday morning, which means that we are still going to the circus in the afternoon. I hope he gets the job as he really wants it.

Number three, there is an English trip for the whole of Year Eleven to the theatre next Friday to see a play that we will be studying this year.

Lastly number four interesting thing to occur, it feels like Damien and I have been friends since the beginning of time, not five days. Which is a huge exaggeration and probably not that interesting I know, but I thought it deserved a mention considering what a big thing it is for me actually having a proper friend, especially one that isn’t scared by the Lollipop Brigade.

Saturday morning before going to work, I went into town and had a look around the shops for some new clothes. All the new winter lines were just coming out, so there was lots of choice.

I ended up buying a pair of black skinny jeans and a long sleeved red and white stripy top, which I planned on wearing to the circus.

Just as I was leaving the shop I spotted a belt that would go perfectly with the whole outfit so I bought that too. See I can do girly activities like shopping.

I was very relieved that I didn't see any of the Lollipop Brigade as I have several bad memories of times when I have been out shopping and they spotted me, especially one time when I was shopping for underwear, I still shudder and cringe at the thought of it.

I went to work full of energy and excitement about my plans in the afternoon to go to the circus with Damien.

Anna noticed my mood and commented on it. "You're very happy today Meg, I presume it’s not because you're at work though?"

I laughed. "I do love coming to work, but I'm excited about the circus, a friend and I are going to it after I finish work."

Anna gave me some jobs to do and the three hours flew by.

I went into what passed as the locker/staff room, even though there were only two lockers, a table and three chairs, and changed from my work shirt into the top I had brought that morning and swopped my jeans for the skinny ones.

I walked back out to the shop, said bye to Anna and went outside. I pulled my jacket on, grateful that I had been able to store my clothes in my locker and so wouldn't have to carry them around all day.

I turned to see Damien running towards me and smiled.

"Hey, how did your interview go?"

Damien was beaming. "I got the job!"

"What? That's brilliant." I flung my arms around him and laughed.

He seemed surprised by my gesture but hugged me back and started to laugh as well.

When I released him he ran a hand through his hair and smiled. "I totally didn't think I was going to get it, I still can't believe it."

I gave him a hard stare.

      "What?" He asked.

I smiled. "Of course you were going to get it! Who wouldn't want you as an employee?"

Damien blushed. "Err sure, well I start a week on Monday."

The hairs on the back of my neck started to rise up and I whipped around.

"What's wrong?" Damien asked, looking as though he was trying not to laugh.

I rubbed the back of my neck. "I had the strangest feeling... like someone was watching me."

He looked around and shrugged. "I can't see anyone."

There were a couple of parked cars in the road, but there was nobody walking around.

I laughed. "Sorry about that, shall we go to the circus?"

Damien smiled and we started to walk.
