15. Going Into The Lion's Den, and Poking Him With A Stick

The car ride took all of thrity minutes. No one spoke. I merely held on to Scarlets hand, cathing her eye every couple of minutes to give her a reassuring smile. My thoughts were in a constant whirlpool. I keot coming up with the worst case scenario. Preparing myself for it. The worst thing that could happen is if i lost Scarlet. I dont think anything could prepare me for that. My wings were starting to twitch. As if they were hungry for the open sky. My head was starting to throb.

"We are here," said on eof the men in the tailored suits as we pulled into the carpark of a very slick, glass incased building. I breathed out heavily, as the car stopped at a security checkpoint. I'd heard the phrase, 'going into the lions den' but I had never actually thought it would apply to me. The doors of the black SUv were opened by more men in tailored suits and they led us into the main lobby. It looked pretty normal, waiting chairs, magazines, a receptionist doing her nails whilst chatting on the phone, but it all seemed a little...cliche. Like these guys were deliberatly trying to hide something from me. Which, to be frank, was no surprise.

"Your father is waiting for you in room B147. Mr. Huds will escort you," the receptionist said. I nodded as a rather bulky guy rounded a corner and beckoned us toward him. I was formulating a plan as we walked, but also desivering the fact that my dad was here. Why would he be here? Was he like me and had wings? I had no idea. If i'd noticed anything about Feather Corp. it was that everything just looked normal. There were workers, all sat in little booths working away at their computers, people bustling past us, and we even passed a group of men by the water cooler. Where were we? A crappy episode of The Office? Eventually we came to a stairwell. The bulky guy pulled out a key and unlocked the door before us then pointed.

"Two floors down, second door on the right," and with that left. Scarlet and I looked at eachother with discontent, but ventured down the metal steps nontheless. it started to get colder as we went deeper. Our surroundings looking more like a lab from a sci-fi Xbox game than anything else. As we reached the second floor down, there was another door, but infront was a security checkpoint, with two dark skinned security guards, both hulking with muscles.

"Put you hand there," one of them said, pointing to a hand scanner beside the door. I nodded and placed my hand on the pad, it bleeped three times then the door opened. "Dont touch anything," he said with steel in his voice. Nodding i pulled scarlet through the door with me, it locked with a click behind us. The room was a lab, the tables littered with vials of unknown chems, clipboards and schematics of the human body. I spotted one on the nearest table, it had my name on it. I went to open it but stopped as i heard a voice from behind us.
