5. Murderer Speaks

Mansi spoke through her sobs, “As far back as I can remember, Minisha was always the winner and I the loser. She was good at everything and my talents were always overlooked because she was more beautiful. So I killed her!!!! Killed her!!! I called her to an ancient relic near the campsite. I told her that my cab driver had dropped me there and that I couldn’t find my way. When Minisha and Rose reached, I pretended that I was too tired. I told them that I needed a cold drink badly. I poured them the poisoned cola that I had carried with me and after they had started drinking, I poured some lemonade for myself, telling them that I was dehydrated and needed lemonade more than cola. They never suspected. The poison was very strong. I used to work in a drug company earlier. In a few minutes, they were dead. Before dying they had informed me about Megha. So I had to be very quick.” There was no repentance in her voice. In fact she was spitting venom. I had never seen her like this.

Vengeful and heartless Mansi revealed , “I crammed their bodies into two strong gunny bags and dragged them to the campsite. I wore gloves, before butchering the two bodies.” I had to cut them into pieces because earlier on I had played a record of tribal men moving about in the bushes. I tore apart the bodies in such manner that it seemed that either some animal or a savage had attacked the girls. Then I left them there. Wiped my body clean, with towels and changed my T-Shirt and skirt. After this, I burnt my shoes, T-shirt, skirt, towels, the paper glasses and the gunny bags. Wore a new pair of shoes and ran as fast as I could, with the pet bottles of soft drinks, in my bag, taking another route to the rented car which I had carefully parked, at a place where the starting of an engine couldn’t be heard from the campsite. I don’t know how I managed to do all this before Megha arrived. Otherwise I would have killed her too. I wasn’t far when she did arrive. I could hear her initial screams in the desolate forest but after a couple of minutes there was complete silence. This gave me time to escape.”

Mr. Jadhav, took from here. He said, “Ms. Mansi you made several mistakes. You lied both at home and in your office about your little trip to Mysore which, of course you never made. Airline officials, bus transport corporations, cab drivers, car rental agencies, corporate houses and their employees-have to cooperate with us Madam. How could you have forgotten this? You broke Minisha’s mobile phone, that was smart, but you obviously don’t know much about the latest technological developments. People and their devices can be tracked very easily these days. Besides, Ms. Mansi, cars have tyres and they leave behind marks. You burnt a lot of things all right, but the marks of burning were clearly visible. No animal or savage would bother to destroy evidence in this manner. Only a person belonging to the so called ‘civilized’ world could plan this kind of savagery.”

Mansi was sentenced to life imprisonment.
