1. The Cataclysm

I felt the elements flow through me, but it made me uneasy. Earth was growing more and more restless as Fire was trying to be free from its bonds. The Cataclysm was soon to come.

“Dornaa my child, it’s time”

I came out of my trance and looked up at Farseer Nobundo who had tension written all over his face. Was it already happening? Was this the end?

“Master, I don’t know if I’m ready…”

Nobundo handed me one of his pendants and held my hands tight in his “You’ll be ready soon enough”

I tried to hold back my tears but I couldn't help it.

When I lost my parents in the great war, Jheel was the only family I had left. I could still remember the day that Nobundo learned about my powers. Jheel and I were still just orphaned kids when it happened.

It was a warm sunny day. Jheel and I were playing tag by the Silverline Lake. The rays of sun reflected on the lake's surface so I had to pinch my eyes together. I looked over my shoulder and giggled as I was running from Jheel who suddenly came to an abrubt stop. His eyes were wide with surprise. At first I thought he was trying to scare me, but then I looked down and saw that I was standing on top of the water. It looked like as if I standing on solid ground yet I could even glimpse the tiny crystals at the bottom of the lake. At that moment my body went rigid with fear. I wanted to scream, to cry out for help, but my mouth was locked in place. I had no idea what had happened to me. Was I another one of those draenei who had became mutants as a result of corruption? Was I going to die? After a moment's silence Jheel yelled for me to come back but I was too scared to move.

That was when Farseer Nobundo arrived. Nobundo walked out on the water and offered me his hand. I looked at him with despair because he didn't look like other draenei. He looked... Broken. He smiled to me gently and told me there was nothing to be afraid of. Slowly and unwillingly I walked besides him back to the shore, and the moment my feet touched the ground again, I ran to Jheel, crying.

It was on that day that Nobundo learned about what I was. A Shaman. A wielder of the elements.

Nobundo explained everything to me and offered my brother and I a place to live in the crystal city known as Exodar. He taught me about the elements. He taught me how to fight. He raised me like I was his own daughter. It was a happy and peaceful time in my life.

Soon however, that time was going to come to an end. Nobundo had prepared me for what was to come. He knew that someday, the dragon Deathwing would escape and all the elements would go out of control. He knew that it was our duty as shamans to heal the elements and prevent Deathwing from letting all life on Azeroth perish in his unrelenting flames.

I wasn't ready though. The thought of saying goodbye to everyone was simply unbearable. How would I succeed without my brother Jheel? How would I succeed without Nobundos guidance?

"Dornaa, you need t-"  Nobundo reached out for me but suddenly everything started shaking. I couldn't hold my balance and I slipped as the lightning crystals surrounding us fell to the floor and shattered into a million pieces. It all got very dark and there was a loud cracking sound as the crystal floor started breaking apart into massive gaping holes. I heard a loud "boom" as I felt the raging heat from an explosion when fire and smoke came from one of the workshops. Desperately I grabbed on to the ground to try and calm it but it was no use. It was already too late.

“Farseer Nobundo!”  The guards yelled at my master while running up the stairs “It’s happening… Deathwing has escaped!”

I looked at Nobundo and he nodded at me. I stood up and swiftly turned into my spirit wolf. Digging my paws into the ground I ran as fast as I could while devastation and panic was all around me.

Jheel was nowhere to be found and I howled as I tried to call his name. There was no time. I knew my mission, but I simply had to find him. I had to make sure that my brother would be safe.

“Dornaa!”  Wizard Kalec yelled at me from the distance and in a blink stood right in front of me.  “Nobundo told me where you need to go. I can take you there, but we must go now!”

Kalec grabbed my hand the moment I turned back to normal and before I knew it, he had teleported us to Deepholm.

“No!” I screamed as I ripped myself loose from Kalec's grip. “Jheel! I need to find him!”

Kalec gently put his hand on my shoulder and I looked up at him as tingly streams of tears ran down my face.

“Listen, Dornaa, your brother will be fine. He is a good fighter. You mustn’t worry about him now at this crucial time. The fate of Azeroth lies on your shoulders”

I sighed and closed my eyes. The raging fire was building up within me. I knew what I had to do. I was ready.

“Okay”  I opened my eyes and smiled at Kalec “Let’s do this”
