“Different inspirations can decide where the story is going to lead you; that’s why I never plan my stories… so long as I keep hold of my inspirations while I write.”                                                                    -xxxMaryEllenxxx

Mary Ellen joined the site on June 15th, 2012, but didn’t officially become a Movellian until the next day when she published her first story, ‘In Love With A Celebrity’. In about two months, she has published nine Movellas, even though she is only thirteen. But her writing journey started when she was five, writing only short stories, with lots of illustrations, and as she got older, she began to write more developed stories. Even when she doesn’t place at school writing competitions, she stays strong, and as she puts it, “It doesn’t bring me down because I see it as a bit of fun. I mean, I love writing so it doesn’t bother me if I come first or last.”

‘Longing for Perfection’ is the story of Rachel, a teen who desperately wants to be perfect. She goes to great lengths by starving herself and cutting her wrists. I love the style that Mary Ellen wrote it in. Rachel is with her boyfriend, telling him  what is really going on, and how she got to be this way, and then it cuts to flashbacks. It shines light on the darkness of anorexia and bullying. Rachel’s pain is dexterously expressed through the words, and shows the true nature of the events that lead up to suicide. I highly recommend that you check it out.  This also happens to be one of xxxMaryEllenxxx’s favorites. It is a sad tale, but happens in society more than we think.

Mary Ellen claims that her inspiration can be anything, but she tends to mostly open up to music. If she wants the story to be depressing, she would listen to a sad song, but if she wanted the atmosphere to be happy, she listens to a more upbeat tune. More recently, however, her inspiration has come to her while she sleeps: dreams. It was the basis for her latest story, Once Upon a Time.

One Upon a Time is the tale of Lily and Josh, couple in high school. They attend the dance together, and are very happy. But their happiness is short sighted by another girl, who is very jealous of the couple’s relationship. Only one chapter is published so far, but will most likely turn out to be fantastic. The descriptions of everyone is amazing, just so that you can picture it in your head. Mary Ellen actually never says that they are in love, but you can tell by the way the words describe their actions. I hope for more soon.
