16. A Disturbing Awakening

It was decided that the search for Sally, Derek's missing daughter would start the following day, to give the trio the rest needed to search the woods. So they dinned on a meal of takeaway pizza and ice cold buds, before turning in for the night. Francis went to sleep first, his was the furthest room on the first floor, Harry followed an hour or so later. But something was troubling Harry, something that he'd picked up on while eating in front of the Tv.

"Francis," Harry whispered as he creaked the door open slightly, the noise from the hinges making more noise than he would have liked. "Francis are you awake?"

"Not Any bloody more, go away." Francis growled, the light entering his eyes blinding his vision.

"Francis, I need to ask you something, something that I've noticed." Harry crept forward and sat at the end of the woolen covered bed.

"What Harry? What is it now?" Francis sat up, clearly not getting any happier.

"Have you seen any photographs of Sally? Like a picture of any small girl? Or his wife for that matter? He didn't even mention his wife." Harry voice has an air of concern, rightly so.

"Maybe they divorced and she took all the pictures." Francis replied bluntly.

"Where does Sally sleep then? There's only three rooms, this one doesn't look very child friendly and mine was completely empty. There aren't any toys, or child's clothes." Harry stood up now, looking in the few amount of cupboards.

"Yeah, that is odd." Harry then smiled, "maybe I was right all along. Maybe there is no daughter and he is just another nut looking for his time in the spotlight."

"I don't believe it, you didn't see his eyes, there was so much pain," Harry said. "He couldn't have faked it."

"Well we'll find out in the morning," Francis continued. "Ask his some questions, talk to Sally's friends parents, search that wood, find her mangled body, call the police then get the hell out of here!"

"Just that simple?" Harry looked at Francis, not recognizing his old friend behind all the bitterness.

"Just that simple." With that Francis' head hit the pillow and the conversation was over.

Harry left the room as quietly as he entered it, apologizing for the noise which was greeted by Francis' angered grunts. But Harry couldn't get the thoughts out of his mind, there wasn't any evidence of a child ever living here, it wouldn't even be safe for one to. It was a dilemma that once again stopped Harry from sleeping as peacefully as he would have liked, the lack of sleep was really starting to affect him. He was praying that the following day would bring some answers, and a restful night.
