The story of Vivian, who fears three bullies more than anything in the world. They make his life purely Hell, without a thought. He is their puppet, a mere rag-doll.

8. Standing Up

He approached Ted, nervous yet strong. He walked up behind him, and tapped his shoulder. Ted didn’t turn. As Vivian walked completely in front of Ted, who hadn’t acknowledged Viv at all, Viv saw Colby come running out of the house. Colby was shouting something incomprehensible, something important. As Viv stopped to hear, Ted walked right on by.

“Vivian? What are you doing?” Colby raced up like a bullet, breathing heavily.

            “I need to tell Ted-“

“What? You don’t understand, he doesn’t care.” Colby wiped his brow.

“Well, I need to talk to him.”

“Vivian. He won’t listen. Trust me.” Vivian watched Ted enter a house down the street.

“Why?” Colby stared at Vivian, confused.

“Well, go on, try.” Vivian walked over to the house and knocked on the door. As he waited for an answer, he frowned at Colby over by a tree. Colby was uninterested and seemed like he was waiting for Vivian to realise something. The door opened.

“Ted, I just wanted you to-“ Frowning, Ted slammed the door. Colby was right, he wouldn’t talk. He walked back over to Colby.

“See? They don’t talk to us.”

“Us?” Colby stared at Vivian for what seemed like hours. Trying to understand each other was so difficult. They were both from different points of view, both drastically different.

“I think there’s something you need to know.” Colby led Vivian over to a puddle from the rain the day before. He pointed at the puddle, in a motion that said ‘look’.

Vivian looked at the puddle. He gasped, his mouth wide. There was no reflection. No reflection at all. Trying to grasp the situation, he turned to Colby. Colby had no reflection either.

“What the Hell? Is this a trick?” Colby shook his head.

“Explain!” Colby kicked the puddle, his shoe invisible in the water.

“Vivian, you didn’t survive the bus accident.”
